Church cut, Wells activated

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Friday that they have released veteran safety Barry Church, who will be subject to waivers. The Jaguars also activated Offensive Lineman Josh Wells from injured reserve, placed offensive lineman Josh Walker on injured reserve and signed defensive lineman Lyndon Johnson in a flurry of roster moves.

Church had already been benched in favor of third round draft pick Ronnie Harrison and was a healthy scratch last week. The writing was on the wall that the team was going to move on from the aging veteran this offseason, if nothing else but to save just over $6 million in cap space.

The team also brought back Josh Wells, who has been practicing at right tackle and is in line to start for a banged up Jermey Parnell, who will likely also be released in the offseason.

Church was originally signed prior to the 2017 season as a stop-gap veteran for the strong safety role and played that role well, but it was clear in 2018 that Father Time had caught up with him and Father Time is undefeated.
