EverBank Field to change names for 2018 season

Get ready to spend your Sundays at Tiaa Bank Field

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been playing (most of) their home games at Everbank Field since the stadium was renamed in 2010, but that will no longer be the case in 2018. The stadium will now be called Tiaa Bank Field.

TIAA Bank acquired EverBank in August 2016. The name change is expected to go through this summer and should be ready by the time the Jaguars take the field this preseason.

Per, Phillip Heilman of Jacksonville.com:

“Our stadium naming rights agreement with the Jacksonville Jaguars will continue and EverBank Field will be renamed TIAA Bank Field beginning in the 2018-2019 NFL season, subject to the approval of the City of Jacksonville and the Jaguars,” said Tori Pappas, senior corporate communications specialist at EverBank.

While there are still a few barriers to get through before the name change can become official, the move is not expected to be challenged by the Jaguars or the city of Jacksonville.

Jaguars president Mark Lamping had this to say on the matter:

This will be the fourth name change for the stadium. It was called Jacksonville Municipal Stadium from 1995-1996 and then again from 2007 through 2010. It was also called Alltel Stadium from 1997 until 2006. EverBank held the naming rights for the previous eight seasons.

TIAA stands for Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America, and is headquartered in New York. The retirement provider and financial services organization acquired Jacksonville-based EverBank Financial Corp. for $2.5 billion.

In 2014, EverBank and the Jaguars reached a 10-year, $43 million agreement to extend the financial institution’s time as the naming rights sponsor through the 2024 season. Previously, EverBank and the Jaguars had reached a five-year agreement in 2010.

Big changes are coming for the Jags in 2018. Not only is the stadium name changing, but all of tarps covering additional seating will be removed, which will open up 3,500 more seats. Additionally, Jacksonville will be wearing different helmets and uniforms next season.

TIAA Bank Field doesn’t quite roll off the tongue as easily as EverBank Field, but obviously everything adds up here. What do you think?
