Andrew Evans Ikefe is gradually turning heads in Lokoja and other league venues in the colours of Niger Tornadoes.
The centre-back has been a revelation so far this season and a lot is expected of him as Tornadoes mount their challenge to win a first-ever NPFL title.
The road to the top was not easy for the young defender. He had to come through a rough road to make it to the top flight of Nigerian league football.
Plucked from the dusty streets of Kaduna by Dynamic Sporting Solutions (DSS) during an open screening, Ikefe ended up being the captain of the side and spent two years with them before Kaduna United came calling.
But before then, he, like many other Nigerian kids, had to endure a lot to actualise his dream of playing professional football. Never one to shy away from challenges, Ikefe kept trudging on before he was eventually discovered by DSS.
“It was very tough for me in the beginning. A lot of people didn’t have faith in me, there was the discouragement from everywhere,” Ikefe revealed.
