Two Barcelona players- Lionel Messi and Ivan Rakitic found themselves on opposite sides of the divide in their Group D match in the World Cup.

Argentina and Croatia were tipped favorites to make it through Group D, but the latest results shows it’s only the Croatians that are living up to the billing.

Rakitic was the happier of the two players on Thursday night as they won Argentina 3-0.

The midfielder had a brilliant game, and even prevented one of of Messi’s best chance to score after the Croatian defense was broken.

Rakitic would go on to score his team’s third goal of the match.

Both players have received a message from their club, Barcelona.

Barcelona congratulated Rakitic while for Messi, the club implied he remain strong as they sent a bicep emoji to him.

Meanwhile, Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli has taken the blame away from his disappointing player.

“I have a lot of pain because of the defeat,” Sampaoli told reporters.

“I don’t know how to analyse the match properly.

“My plan for this game didn’t work, we have to wait for a small chance [to qualify] and then fight for it, we have no choice.

“My feeling is not one of shame but of pain for not having lived up to the Argentine people.

“The responsibility is mine, it is not for me to attribute the responsibility to Caballero.”

“The plan didn’t work and if it doesn’t work, it is difficult for the players who were in that plan to make it work,” he said.
