Phillip Lindsay on wrist injury: ‘I’m 100 percent’

You won’t need to worry about Phillip Lindsay’s wrist when Broncos Training Camp starts this week. He’s ready to go.

The Denver Broncos struck gold in the undrafted free agent market last season when they signed running back Phillip Lindsay. The 5’9” 190 pound speedster proved quickly he was going to be more than just another scat back, compiling 1037 yards at 5.40 yards per carry in 15 games before a wrist injury derailed his final game and a half.

Rehab on that wrist has kept Lindsay off the field in the Pro Bowl and through all organized team activities thus far, but he told Mike Klis of 9News this week that he is ready to go for Broncos Training Camp.

The final decision on Lindsay’s participation level in practice is obviously going to be made by the teams medical staff and coaches. For Lindsay, he is focused on being durable and healthy for a full season - not just a few training camp practices and/or preseason games.

“It’s a long season,” Lindsay said to 9News. “I’d rather go 16, 17, 18, 20 games than go four (preseason) games. It all depends on what coach Fangio and all them feel like I should be doing right now.”

It did seem like Lindsay wore down late last year, so expanding Royce Freeman’s role in the offense could really help keep Lindsay fresh and the dynamic home run threat he proved he could be.

The Broncos were 6-1 when Lindsay broke the 70 yard mark on the ground in a game, however, the story changed when you looked at games where Lindsay carried a higher load. When Lindsay had 16 or more carries in a game, the Broncos were just 1-2. The sweet spot for Lindsay seemed to be between 11-15 carries, which means the Broncos need one of the other running backs to step it up this season.

Either way, its going to be nice to see No. 30 back out there in the orange and blue at some point during training camp. He will figure to be a critical piece of the offensive puzzle for the Broncos this season,
