Would you rather the Chiefs or Raiders go to the Super Bowl?

On the MHR Radio Podcast, Ian and I asked this pretty gross question.

Alright Denver Broncos fans. I have one more “Would you rather” for you. If you listened to Ian St. Clair and I go through these on the MHR Radio Podcast (ApplePodcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher) then you know sometimes they are fun, and sometimes they make you want to hurl.

Of course, on the podcast we made the rule you have to pick a side. That’s not always the most palatable way to play, but it forces you to pick a side.

As we played the game, we eventually got to a question that even now makes me want to close my eyes as I drive into a ravine. The Broncos have two main division rivals, and neither of them have found ultimate success in a long time, so (brace yourself) ...

Would you rather the Kansas City Chiefs or the Oakland Raiders make it to the Super Bowl? We couldn’t go as far as to give them a win, but simply having to watch one of them play on the last NFL Sunday would ruin that for many of us.

The Chiefs have technically only won one Super Bowl, in 1970. They have also never won the trophy named for their owner. The AFC Championship winner receives the Lamar Hunt Trophy. Their championship drought has been a nice arrow to have in the quiver of inter-division rival trash talking.

The Raiders last won a Super bowl in 1983. They most recently lost in the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002. For old school Broncos fans, the Raiders are the most Hated Rival. Raider Week is circled on everyone’s calendar, and who can forget Mike Shanahan’s desire to destroy the team that shafted him every chance he got.

In recent years, the Chiefs have won the division three years running. Oakland looked like a potential contender and then traded away all its best players. The Chiefs are the obvious choice for which team is closest to making a run at the Super Bowl. Still, the Raiders are the most hated rival, which makes answering the question a tricky proposition.

When asking Ian, though, his answer was immediate, “Raiders. It’s not even close.” I was shocked at the speed of the answer, but not surprised. Yeah, either is gross, but if you know your NFL history, there is something quite pleasing about a hated rival failing to win a trophy that was named after their owner.

As much as I hate the Raiders, I had to agree. The Raiders will always be the most hated rival. Watching them falter at every turn is a pleasure for all Broncos Country. However, seeing a team fail to bring home the trophy named for their owner is just too funny to let go.

What do you think? Which team would you rather see make it to the Super Bowl. Vote, and then let us know what you think in the comments.
