Broncos are 2.5-point road favorites over the Cardinals

Yes, you read that correctly. Somehow, the Denver Broncos are road favorites on Thursday Night Football against the Arizona Cardinals.

Despite a four-game losing streak and a 1-9 road record under Vance Joseph, the Denver Broncos (2-4) are favored by 2.5-points over the Arizona Cardinals (1-5).

This line feels fishy as the Cardinals are far more competitive now than they were to start the season. In their first two games, they were beaten by a combined score of 58-6. However, since then, the Cardinals offense is averaging 19.00 points per game and their defense is giving up 20.25 points per game. I would call that competitive.

Meanwhile, on the Broncos side of things, the defense is in a state of disarray giving up an embarrassing - by their standards - 25.67 points per game and the offense has limped along to a 20.00 point per game average. And many of those points came when teams were in prevent to protect a multi-score lead.

Two weeks ago, the New York Jets coaching Staff had their jobs on the line and they put a beat down on the Broncos. Now it’s the Cardinals coaching staffs turn to rally their troops.

“I would say all our jobs are in jeopardy,” Cardinals Head Coach Steve Wilks said on Monday, “including mine if we don’t win.”

It would be pretty damning to have Vance Joseph and his staff out-coached by two coaching staffs on the verge of being fired in a span of 10 days, but that has been kind of how things have gone for the Broncos since 2017.
