The name Steve Atwater elicits all of kinds of emotions.

He’s one of the most iconic Denver Broncos in history who put forth one of the most iconic plays in NFL history when he smacked Christian Okoye. Most agree Atwater should have his place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but Broncos fans know how that works (here’s the most recent example).

Earlier this week, Adam Malnati and I had the remarkable opportunity to have Atwater on the latest addition of the MHR Radio Podcast. It still remains an absolute treat. We discussed today’s game against the Chicago Bears and what he needs/wants to see, how he feels about Denver after the first preseason game and training camp concluding and if his optimism for the regular season remains (duh).

We also took some trips down memory lane to his playing days, Super Bowl XXXII in San Diego, and, of course, his hit on Okoye. But perhaps the most powerful aspect of our chat with Steve was when he talked about Broncos owner Pat Bowlen. Steve included a powerful anecdote about the most recent time he saw Mr. B.

This really is a treat, and hopefully Broncos fans enjoy it as much as we did.
