Horse Tracks: A Broncos victory over the Raiders always feels good

Another chapter in this historic rivalry was penned in orange on Sunday.

Good morning Broncos Country!

Growing up a Broncos fan, I quickly learned that it wasn’t enough to just root for Denver, but that it was required to also pull for any team playing against the Raiders.

On Sunday, those teams were one and the same and the results were glorious. There’s nothing like emerging from a Raider-week as the victor. There’s a spring in your step. That morning cup of coffee tastes just that much better. The kids’ incessant whining doesn’t grate on your nerves as much. Okay, maybe there is no helping that last one, but I digress.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Sunday’s victory over the the Raiders the 51st time that wonderful feeling has been granted by the Broncos. Sure, in recent history, we always seem to give Oakland a run for their money. However, it’s important to remember that there once was a time when beating the Raiders was rare and before that there was a time when it literally never happened.

In the regular season, the Raiders own a 61-51-2 record over the Broncos. Sunday’s victory whittled that deficit down to just 10 games. There’s a great chance that at the conclusion of this season that that disparity could be down to single digits for the first time since the late 1960’s.

Man, how sweet would that be?!

Enjoy the bye week, Broncos fans. Sunday’s win over the Raiders was a big one.
