MHR NFL Draft Round Table: Who do you want the Broncos to select in the first round?

It's that time of the year again! The Mile High Report team has once again come together for their annual NFL Draft Round Table discussions to offer their opinions and analysis on several questions pertaining to this year's draft. The first question up for debate, "Who do you want the Broncos to select in the first round?"

We all have dreams, but unfortunately in respect to who we want our beloved Denver Broncos to select in the first round of the NFL Draft — those dreams will be crushed.

Many fans will be absolutely ecstatic with who we select, because regardless of who it is, they will hope they can pay big dividends for the team.  On the other side, there will be those who are absolutely furious and in a wave of emotion, throw their TV remote right through their precious big screen. Most certainly, a player will gain status as a "bust" through social media before ever stepping onto the bladed grass at the team's Dove Valley complex.

Then there are those who will say, "Yeah, but we could have had (player name here) instead!" much like many fans did back in 2002 when the Broncos opted for Hawaii wide receiver Ashley Lelie over the pride of Miami Hurricanes, Ed Reed.

Today, the Mile High Report staff has gathered to answer a few questions pertaining to this year's NFL Draft, with the first being who each of us would like to see the Denver Broncos select in the first round. There will be an additional three articles in this series that offer our insights and opinions on the draft and we hope you enjoy them.  Most of all, we hope you decide to participate and answer the questions for yourselves in the comments section!

Who do you want the Broncos to select in the first round?

Tim Lynch

Christian Mccaffrey. Do whatever it takes. If John Elway is the Duke of Denver, then the McCaffrey family are his Earls. The cost will likely be steep, but if somehow, someway Elway can make this happen then I'll be on cloud nine.

Ian St. Clair

If Reuben Foster drops like some think he will, Elway and the Broncos have to pick him. It would test the theory Elway doesn't value the middle linebacker position, but he's also never had a guy with the talent of Foster drop to him in the draft. Foster in this defense could be incredibly special. If not Foster, Forrest Lamp. I love Lamp.

Adam Malnati

The simple answer here is best player available. I don’t think there is any reason to reach for a player. The Broncos may have needs up front on both sides of the ball, but this draft lacks talent at those positions. There is little doubt that Christian McCaffrey will be available with the 20th pick, but Reuben Foster might be there.

Another guy who makes sense with the 20th pick is Joe Mixon. The baggage is heavy, but the talent is there. I would love for Denver to get one of those guys, but there is so much talent in the draft that trading back into the second round and having the chance to pick two guys that high up would be very tempting as well. Best player available is always the right play, and trading out of the first is just as good in this draft.

I'm pretty much down with anyone that isn't a tackle prospect in the first round. I feel like the talent available in this draft is too much to pass up on in the first and we could bolster our future as a franchise at CB, TE, LB, RB, or Edge far better than we could with a OT.  I don't think any of the guys at the top of the list at tackle for this draft are going to be plug and play like we would need them to be in order to validate taking them in the first.

Pete Baron

I really want the Broncos to get Christian McCaffrey. I know many want him because of his hometown roots and his dad playing for our team, but I'm telling you all that that stuff simply doesn't matter to me. Sure it makes for a cool story, but this dude eats, breathes, and lives football. He will bust his butt on and off the practice field.

Think about a player who will practice with the intensity of Tebow, but actually be really freaking good at his craft? Plus, could you imagine the gameplanning nightmares he creates? When a defense sees him in the slot, they are in nickel. Well, what if the Broncos motion him to line up behind the QB. Man, the defense now has a choice to make. Do they stay in nickel? Do they call timeout? Do they have the base personnel to mask a run instead of a pass?

Please oh please Mr. Elway, get us this dynamic playmaker. He's worth whatever price it takes to move up because he'll be better than whoever we take with our 1st round, 2nd round, and both 3rd round picks combined! So do it! Ricky Williams trade this draft away for him style!

Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann

Christian McCaffrey. I know, I know..."he's not going to be available." Whatever, the question asked who I wanted, and I want McCaffrey.

I love his family history, which tells us all we need to know about work ethic and competitiveness. I love his college resume, which tells us all we need to know about his versatility at many positions on the field. I love that he strikes me as the kind of guy who could be a leader in the locker room his rookie year.

So take all the logic about "where he falls" in the draft and believe with me that Elway can make this happen. And IF he is not available, then my other secret wish would be O.J. Howard or even David Njoku. We need some tight ends who can catch and block.

Christopher Hart

Most of my staff here is on the Christian McCaffrey train. Admittedly, I'm a fan, but I'd love to see the Broncos role the dice on Florida State running back Dalvin Cook. I think he has the potential to be a transcendent player at the position and would give the team the every down back and versatile threat they need at the position.

I'm not sure Denver will have the ability to trade to for McCaffrey, but Cook should definitely be within striking distance for the Broncos in the draft's first round. I'm not worried about the off-the-character concerns or the minor injury history. I've seen him play. I've seen him be at his best when the stakes are the highest. In my eyes, he's easily the best back in this class from a three-down standpoint. I'd love for us to snag him.

Scotty Payne

Who do I want? I want Temple linebacker Haason Reddick. I think he can be a big-time playmaker for the Broncos. Now do I think this happens? Nope.

I think the Broncos go tackle, and they kinda have too. The big question is which guy is their top target? There are rumors that Cam Robinson will be the first tackle off the board, there are rumors the Broncos really like Bolles and Ryan Ramczyk has been the popular mock draft pick, so who knows? They could also go Forrest Lamp.

Jeffrey Essary

I don’t believe Elway when he says they feel good about having a Left Tackle already on the roster. I do believe him when he says they think one of the guys in this class could start Day 1 at LT. Cam Robinson is a guy I have really come around on over the last month or so and I’m convinced this is the direction Denver should go in the first round.

Regardless of the fact that we pigeon-holed ourselves into taking a tackle, we can’t continue to ignore the offensive line with our premium picks in the draft, especially if we aren’t spending top dollar on it in Free Agency. Bite the bullet, make the call, and get you an athletic monster who is good enough to come in and contribute right off the bat.

The Mile High Report team has given their thoughts on who they would like the Broncos to draft in the first round.  It's a mixed bag of opinions, but many of the staff feel that Christian McCaffrey would be the perfect selection for Denver and was destined to don the orange and blue.

Feel free to share your thoughts on who you'd love to see the Broncos select in the first round in the comments section!
