Giants’ injury report, 9/19: Eli Apple misses practice Wednesday

Olivier Vernon also remains out

New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple did not practice Wednesday due to the groin injury he suffered Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Linebacker Olivier Vernon, who has yet to play this season due to an ankle injury, also did not practice.

Apple, a third-year corner and 2016 first-round pick, has been playing well so far this season.

When he left Sunday’s game the Giants moved B.W. Webb from the slot to the outside to take Apple’s place. Donte Deayon took over in the slot.

“A little tight, a little pain” is how Apple described his groin injury on Wednesday. He said he would “know a lot more after today” about his potential availability for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

Without Vernon, who had 6.5 sacks last season, the Giants’ pass rush has been anemic. They have only one sack after two games. Per Football Outsiders, the Giants are last in the league with an Adjusted Sack Rate of 1.7 percent.

Check back later for a full injury report.
