The Dolphins may have underperformed against the Ravens, but how did the rest of the Afc East fare in the second week of preseason?

The Miami Dolphins made headlines in the second week of preseason with Jay Cutler's debut, but what went on with the rest of the teams in the AFC East? Let's now jump into the storylines that emerged outside of south Florida last week.

Buffalo Bills at Philadelphia Eagles

Final Result: Eagles win 20-16

Besides LeSean McCoy's preseason debut, the focus of the Bills' second exhibition outing fell on the shoulders of quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Now entering his third season as Buffalo's signal caller, Taylor failed to impress against Philadelphia. He threw two interceptions—one of which was tipped at the line—in his limited action. Along with Taylor's struggles, it looks like T.J. Yates is losing ground on Nathan Peterman. The fifth-round rookie had a productive night under center, and it appears that he is a legitimate threat for the backup spot in Buffalo.

Outside of the quarterbacks, Buffalo's wide receiver situation has become a circus. The sudden departure of Sammy Watkins (traded to Los Angeles) and Anquan Boldin (retirement) have put the Bills in a less-than-ideal situation. Rookie Zay Jones had three catches for 42 yards against the Eagles, which should provide coach Sean McDermott with some hope for the future.

New York Jets at Detroit Lions

Final Result: Lions win 16-6

With Josh McCown on the sideline, coach Todd Bowles turned the first-team offense over to second-year quarterback Christian Hackenberg. The former Penn State standout was unable to get the Jets' passing game going, but he was able to find some success on the ground. Bryce Petty performed slightly better in the second half under center, but New York was still unable to put a touchdown on the scoreboard.

Like the Bills, the Jets' wide receiver rotation is a mystery. No receiver surpassed the 50-yards-recieving threshold against the Lions, raising some serious questions about who will fill the void left behind by Quincy Enunwa's season-ending neck injury.

New England Patriots at Houston Texans

Final Result: Texans win 27-23

If you're wondering who will be the next surprisingly-good Patriots running back, the search is over, Rex Burkhead has arrived. While that might be a bit tongue-in-cheek, it wouldn't be shocking to see New England turn Burkhead into a viable change-of-pace option out of the backfield. The former Bengals running back had 10 touches for 70 yards, and was on the receiving end of a touchdown pass from Tom Brady.

The Patriots looked vulnerable on defense against the Texans, however, as quarterback Tom Savage went 8-for-9 with Houston's first-team offense. Things got worse for New England as the game went on, as Deshaun Watson torched defensive end Kony Ealy for a touchdown in the third quarter.
