Eagles preseason legend Paul Turner is reportedly out for several more weeks

Not good for his Roster chances.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver and 2016 preseason fan-favorite Paul Turner will be out for at least another three weeks, according to a report from Dave Zangaro of CSN Philly. Turner reportedly suffered a fractured scapula.

This injury means that Turner will miss the Eagles’ entire 2017 preseason schedule. Turner has been out since August 2 so by the time he’s ready to return he’ll have been out for over a month.

This obviously isn’t good news for Turner’s chances of making the roster. He was a bubble guy at best to begin with but now he’s really fallen behind. Other players such as Mack Hollins, Marcus Johnson, and Greg Ward have stepped up this summer.

Turner turned heads after signing with Philadelphia as an undrafted rookie free agent last offseason. He made the original final roster before being placed on the Practice Squad and then ultimately called up to the 53-man again. Fans were clamoring for him given how truly dreadful the Eagles’ wide receiving corps was.

But now the landscape is different. Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith are established veterans who’ve had good offseasons. Nelson Agholor still has a lot to prove in game action but at least he’s practice well. Then there’s Hollins, Johnson, Ward. Fifth-round pick Shelton Gibson might even be pushing for a roster spot.

All of this means Turner will likely be waived with an injury settlement at some point. Maybe he’ll catch on the Eagles’ (or another team’s) practice squad later in the season. For now, his time in Philadelphia is coming to an end.
