Eagles News: Carson Wentz named fantasy football sleeper

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 6/23/17.

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

2017 Fantasy Football Draft Prep: Eagles flying high with new weapons - CBS Sports
Sleeper: Carson Wentz. An interesting note on Wentz as a rookie last year was he had only four games with 20 Fantasy points in a standard league. And all four of those came when right tackle Lane Johnson, who is among the best players at his position in the NFL, was active. Johnson was suspended 10 games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, but he played in the first four games of the season and the final two. If you project Wentz's stats in those games over a full season then Wentz would have had 3,744 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and three interceptions. Now, that's a small sample size, but it shows what Wentz can do when he has talent around him, including an excellent offensive line that features Jason Peters, Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks and Johnson. And now he has a receiving corps to match with the addition of Jeffery and Smith to join Matthews, Ertz and Sproles. Wentz isn't worth drafting as a No. 1 Fantasy quarterback this season, but he should be considered a high-end backup worth selecting with a late-round pick in all leagues. This could be a big year for Wentz in 2017.

10 players the Eagles can least afford to lose to injury - PhillyVoice
1) Carson Wentz - Duh. After a promising rookie season, Wentz enters 2017 as the guy. Second-year success would be nice, and even expected by most observers. The Eagles have built their franchise around Wentz, and even disallowed his quarterback coach to interview for a better position with another team. A significant setback by way of injury would be a waste of a year on the field, and could stunt Wentz's continued growth.

A Look At Draft Class And Road Ahead - PE.com
For the 2017 Rookie Class, the final day of the Eagles’ mandatory minicamp and the resulting final whistle allowed them all to take a collective, and huge, sigh of relief. It had been a crazy many months since their college football careers ended. The pre-draft schedule was demanding. The post-draft weeks had been exhausting ...

NFL players help youth team start anew after anthem protest fallout - ESPN
A youth football team that had its season canceled amid fallout for protesting during the national anthem is starting anew, and with the backing of an NFL player coalition. Malcolm Jenkins and Torrey Smith of the Philadelphia Eagles; New England Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty; and free-agent wide receiver Anquan Boldin headline a group of players that has donated $20,000 to help fund the inaugural season for the Southeast Texas Oilers, an organization made up of leaders from the Beaumont Bulls program that created a stir when the 11-12 boys team took a knee during the national anthem in September.

Eagles Better or Worse 2017: Linebackers - CSN Philly
Little change was made to the Eagles linebackers during the offseason. In fact, the only meaningful transaction was selecting Nathan Gerry in the fifth round of the draft – and he played safety at Nebraska. It’s another year of Jordan Hicks and Nigel Bradham holding down the fort, and from the looks of things, another year of Mychal Kendricks largely standing by and watching. That being said, nothing is ever truly static in the NFL, so is this group of linebackers better or worse than last year’s?

Michael Vick's father arrested on drug-ring charges - Philly.com
The father of former pro-football star Michael Vick has been arrested on charges of being involved in a drug ring. The Virginian-Pilot reports that federal authorities arrested 55-year-old Michael Dwayne Boddie on Thursday. A federal indictment unsealed Wednesday in Newport News alleges that he and 11 others conspired to sell heroin. Boddie is being held without bond until a Monday detention hearing. He was assigned a court-appointed attorney.

Sonny Jurgensen was a Hall of Fame quarterback whose NFL career spanned 18 seasons, and now his career calling football on the radio in Washington has doubled that length. But at age 83, Jurgensen is not ready to call it quits. Jurgensen told the Washington Post he’ll still be calling games in Washington this season, after initially thinking he was going to retire from broadcasting.
