Manchester City won’t complain to FA over Herrera spitting incident

Manchester City have no plans to lodge a complaint against Ander Herrera after he was seen seemingly spitting in the direction of their club badge during Saturday’s Manchester derby.

City were beaten in astonishing fashion by United on Saturday, despite having led their bitter rivals 2-0 at half-time en-route to sealing the Premier League title.

The Spaniard assisted Paul Pogba’s first goal but his most notable contributions came elsewhere, with his time-wasting key in the closing stages.

But a video has emerged of the midfielder spitting on the club’s badge at half-time.

Press Association Sport understands City are aware of the incident but do not intend to escalate it by making any formal representations to the Football Association.

Players are often seen spitting on the field before, during and after matches and as Herrera was walking directly towards the tunnel, with no deviation, it would surely prove difficult to establish any malign intent.

A United spokesperson said: “Ander has seen the footage of the incident and is mortified at any suggestion that his actions were deliberate. It was entirely accidental and there was no intent whatsoever.”

However, The Guardian report that City ‘could make a formal complaint to the FA, who may even decide to ‘take action against Herrera whether any official report is made or not.
