Georgia returns home to face Tennessee

Bulldogs need a win against Vols.

Georgia once again looks to build some momentum when they square off against Tennessee Saturday at Stegeman Coliseum.

The Bulldogs pulled off a much needed 72-69 overtime win over Florida last time out snapping a three-game losing streak in the process. Georgia comes into Saturday’s game with a 14-11 record and a 5-8 mark in conference play with five games remaining.

The Bulldogs fell behind early against the Gators but mounted a second half rally to force overtime where they eventually prevailed. Yante Maten led the way again finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Tyree Crump added 13 points off the bench while Derek Ogbeide, Rayshaun Hammonds and Juwan Parker all finished with 10 each.

Turtle Jackson suffered a strained knee late in regulation and did not play in the overtime against the Gators. He is expected to play on Saturday but his condition will be something that will have to be monitored. If he can’t go or if the injury effects him, then the Bulldogs will have to lean on Crump and freshman TeShaun Hightower to pick up the slack.

Tennessee comes into the game with a 19-6 record overall and a 9-4 mark in conference play. The Volunteers had a six-game winning streak snapped a week ago with a blowout 78-50 loss to Alabama. They were able to bounce back on Tuesday with a hard fought 70-67 win over South Carolina.

Grant Williams led the way with 22 points in the win over the Gamecocks and is averaging 16.2 points on the season. Tennessee has won 10 of its last 12 games. The Bulldogs will play again in the final regular season game on March 3.

Tip off for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be seen via the SEC Network.
