Mason Mount sends message to Frank Lampard after signing new Chelsea FC deal

Mason Mount has declared his intention to fight his way into the Chelsea FC first team next season after having signed a new contract with the west London club.

The England Under-21 international has signed a new five-year deal with the Blues to keep him at Stamford Bridge until at last 2024.

Mount spent last season on loan to Derby County and he has now reunited with his boss at Pride Park after Frank Lampard was appointed as the Blues’ new manager earlier this month.

The 20-year-old scored nine goals and made four assists in 38 Championship games for Derby under Lampard last season, and the attacking midfielder is now focused on proving his worth at Chelsea FC.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC’s website, Mount said: “Young boys feel like there’s a pathway here and that they’re going to get a chance, which gives us confidence to train with the first team, try to get into the team and work hard to be involved.

“That’s my goal for this season – I want to fight for my position and having 80 games under my belt over the last two years has given me a really good platform coming back.

“It’s really exciting times at the moment.”

He added: “Joining Chelsea at the age of six, Frank was always my idol.

“He was a Chelsea player and an attacking midfielder like me so I always looked up to him. Being with him at Derby was the best thing for me because I couldn’t have anyone else better to learn from day-in, day-out.

“It was a brilliant year for me in that sense and now coming back to Chelsea and him coming back as well, it’s obviously perfect timing.”

Mount also scored twice in four League Cup appearances for Derby last season.

Chelsea FC will be looking to finish in the top four once again next season after they ended up third and won the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri last term.

The West London Club opted to bring in Lampard as their new manager after Sarri departed west London following just a season in charge, as he left to take over at Juventus.
