Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tells Man United midfielder to stay at Old Trafford – report

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has advised Juan Mata to stay at Manchester United as the midfielder’s agent prepares for talks with the Old Trafford club, according to reports in the British media.

Metro is reporting that the interim Manchester United boss is keen for the 30-year-old midfielder to sign a new contract with the Red Devils to extend his stay at the club.

Mata is out of contract at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether he will sign a new deal to keep him at the club.

The same story reports that Manchester United triggered a 12-month extension to Mata’s contract in 2017, but the playmaker is now in the final six months of his current deal.

The same article says that Solskjaer has held one on one talks with Mata since his appointment at Old Trafford last month, and that the Norwegian manager has urged the Spaniard to stay at the club.

The story also says that Mata’s father, who is the midfielder’s representative, is due to hold talks with club chiefs at Carrington this week.

Mata has not been a regular fixture in the first team at Manchester United this season, with the playmaker having only started nine Premier League games so far.

However, he has scored two goals and made two assists in the top flight so far this term.
