Gary Neville admits Liverpool FC are playing ‘Championship-winning football’

Gary Neville has conceded that Liverpool FC are playing “Championship-winning football” after Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United.

The Reds were relegated to second place in the Premier League Table after Manchester City were 3-1 winners against Everton at The Etihad on Saturday evening.

Liverpool FC were held to frustrating stalemates in their last two meetings with Jose Mourinho’s side at Anfield to build pressure ahead of Sunday’s meeting.

Sadio Mane broke the deadlock with a precise finish to capitalise on Liverpool FC’s dominant start before Alisson Becker’s error allowed Jesse Lingard to equalise against the run of play ahead of half-time.

Jurgen Klopp turned to Xherdan Shaqiri in the second half and the Switzerland international scored twice in seven minutes to secure a 3-1 win over their bitter rivals.

Liverpool FC hoisted themselves to the top of the Premier League table and a point ahead of defending champions Manchester City in the title race.

The Reds will face Wolves, Newcastle United and Arsenal before their trip to Manchester City on New Year’s Day in a top of the table clash.

Former Manchester United defender Neville delivered his verdict on Liverpool FC’s form after their 3-1 win over Manchester United.

“Everyone fancied Liverpool to win, and sometimes when you have that feeling going into a game, you’re hoping the players are thinking, ‘let’s show them’.

“I have to say, if you take out that Alisson mistake, it was men against boys, wasn’t it?” Neville told his Sky Sports podcast. “There was only really one good team out there. Liverpool are a good team.

“They’re a team who are playing a level of football that I called on Monday Night Football this week ‘Championship-winning football’.

“Their only real problem is that they’ve got a great side coming up against them in Manchester City.”

Liverpool FC finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014 but have never won the Premier League title.
