Denis Irwin has admitted that Manchester United need a turnaround under Jose Mourinho before their Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Red Devils booked their place in the Champions League round of 16 earlier last month thanks to Manchester United’s 1-0 win against Young Boys at Old Trafford.
Mourinho’s men missed out on the chance to top their group after La Liga outfit Valencia were 2-1 winners against the Red Devils at the Mestalla last week.
Manchester United slumped to a 3-1 loss to Liverpool FC at Anfield on Sunday evening to leave Mourinho’s side in sixth place and 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC.
The Old Trafford side could still qualify for the Champions League if Manchester United manage to win the competition in the current campaign.
Manchester United will have to find a way past Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and the rest of the PSG team in the round of 16.
The Ligue 1 side lost 3-2 to Liverpool FC in the Champions League group-stage opener at Anfield before PSG were 2-1 winners at Parc des Princes in the return fixture.
Former Manchester United defender Irwin believes Mourinho and his players will need to regroup before the Champions League knockout stage in February.
“With the team, they’ve got at the moment it’s a very interesting draw for us,” Irwin told BT Sport.
“There’s still two months to go before. They’re a top team. We’ve already seen that.
“They’ve got plenty of talent going forward with Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe, [Angel] Di Maria and [Edinson] Cavani.
“There’s two months to go, hopefully we can pick up some form before that. We’ve got good experience.
“The last month or so has been sticky for us. We have to concentrate on the Premier League now and the FA Cup in January.”
Only Burnley, Fulham, Cardiff City and Southampton have conceded more goals than Manchester United in the Premier League in the current campaign.
