Mohamed Salah: Why I gave Liverpool FC team-mate man of match award

Mohamed Salah has explained his decision to hand his man of the match award to James Milner after Liverpool FC’s 4-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

The Egypt international dispelled doubt surrounding his form with a hat-trick at the Vitality Stadium to help Liverpool FC secure three points in the title race.

While questions have been asked of Salah’s form in the current campaign, the Liverpool FC number 11 is the second player to hit double figures this season after Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang managed to do so last week.

Salah sits at the top of the goal-scoring charts alongside his fellow African forward on 10 goals.

The Egyptian’s team-mate Milner made his 500th appearance in the Premier League on the south coast after Klopp asked the former Manchester City man to play out of position at right-back.

Unsurprisingly, Milner acquitted himself well in an unfamiliar role as Liverpool FC managed to keep their tenth clean sheet of the Premier League season.

And Salah handed the Liverpool FC vice captain his man of the match award to honour Milner’s Premier League landmark during their interview with Sky Sports after Saturday’s 4-0 win.

“I have to congratulate him for his amazing career,” Salah said.

“He deserves it today [Saturday], and I hope we are going to win something this season together, but I will not take [this award].”

Milner added that his 500th league appearance was made more special thanks to Liverpool FC’s resounding win.

“I can enjoy it today because we’ve won 4-0, it’s more something to look back on, but the result was more important,” Milner added.

Liverpool FC will take on Manchester United in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday 16 December.

The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
