Jamie Redknapp hails ‘influential’ Man United star

Jamie Redknapp has praised Marouane Fellaini for his solid performance for Manchester United in their 2-1 win at Watford on Saturday.

The Belgian midfielder was a key part of the victory at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon as he notched up an assist to help Jose Mourinho’s men make it two wins in a row in the Premier League for the first time this season.

Fellaini has always been something of a controversial figure at Old Trafford but Mourinho seems to be getting the best form out of the 30-year-old.

And Redknapp believes that Fellaini deserves credit for his fine display for Manchester United as they claimed a narrow victory against the Hornets on Saturday.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Marouane Fellaini has had his fair share of critics — myself included — but he was one of the standout stars this weekend.

“Jose Mourinho deployed Fellaini to cut off the supply line to Troy Deeney and Andre Gray but not only did he do that job superbly, he also set up Chris Smalling’s goal.

“He was Manchester United’s most influential player at Watford and Mourinho deserves credit for playing him in that role.”

Manchester United are now preparing to kick off their Champions League group stage campaign when they take on Young Boys at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils are aiming to challenge for honours on all fronts this season after they ended up second in the Premier League table and without a trophy last term.

Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since their famous final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
