Ian Wright insists Diego Costa remains a big miss for Chelsea.
The Spain international didn’t play a minute of Premier League football in the 2017-18 season before sealing his return to Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.
The controversial striker moved back to los Rojiblancos on a season-long loan, with Atletico set to make the deal permanent for a fee in the region of £57.1m next summer.
The two-time Premier League winner was frozen out at the west London club following a fallout with manager Antonio Conte.
The Chelsea boss endured a tempestuous relationship with Costa last term and the pair fell out during the festive period.
However, the duo managed to patch up their differences as Costa scored 20 times in their title-winning campaign under the Italian coach.
Conte informed Costa over text that he was surplus to requirements ahead of the 2017-18 season in order to facilitate a summer move.
However, the 29-year-old failed to secure a transfer to Atletico Madrid before deadline day, although Costa finally got his move last week.
Alvaro Morata has scored three goals in five games to help Chelsea to bounce back from a shock 3-2 loss to Burnley on the opening day of the season.
Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Costa’s absence will be felt at the west London side despite the Spanish striker’s poor relationship with his ex manager Conte.
“Diego Costa is a miss. I don’t care about what anyone says,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Summer signing Alvaro Morata scored a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 4-0 win against Stoke City on Saturday.
