Gary Neville has told Alexis Sanchez that he needs to improve his attitude after Arsenal’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday.

The Chile international made his first Premier League appearance of the season for the Gunners on Sunday as he was powerless to prevent Arsenal slipping to a humiliating defeat at Anfield.

The loss capped a miserable start to the new season for Arsene Wenger’s side, who have now lost two of their first three Premier League games to leave them 16th in the table.

Sanchez’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after he entered into the final 12 months of his contract at The Emirates.

It remains to be seen whether the forward will stay at Arsenal and sign a new contract before his current deal expires.

But aside from the speculation about his future, former Manchester United defender Neville has not been impressed by Sanchez’s performances overall.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Sunday, Neville said: “He’s thrown the towel in the last six or seven months.

“In the first five or 10 minutes of the match [at Liverpool], he was throwing his arms up and down as if to say ‘I’m the only one trying’.

“He’s a fantastic, spirited player and he’s a tiger on the pitch when he plays at his best.

“But for the last six months, he’s not covered himself in glory.”

Sanchez will be expecting to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action after the international break with a home clash against Bournemouth at The Emirates.

Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League and won the FA Cup last season.
