Wales National Rugby Union Team represents Wales in international Rugby union tournaments. Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) governing body was established in 1881. Wales played their first international match against England in 1881. Welsh rugby struggled between the first and second World Wars. The International Rugby Board (KIRBY) regards Wales as a Tier One rugby nation and is ranked fourth in the world by the result of International Rugby Board on 17th October 2011.

Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) celebrates its 100th anniversary in the 1980. Anniversary season 1980-1981 was celebrated by facing the All Blacks in Cardiff, Wales lost the match 23-3. First six years of the decade from 1980-1986 Wales just won two matches in each Five Nations championship. In 1981, JPR Williams made his last Test appearance at the Arms Park and the full back made it 11 wins out of 11 against England in a 21-19 victory.

Gwyn Evans
In 1982 Gwyn Evans equaled the world record with six penalty goals against France before Scotland ended Wales' 27-match unbeaten championship record at the ground and brought down the curtain on Wales' second 'Golden Age' by defeating Wales 18-34, the most points Wales had ever conceded at home. Wales National Rugby Union Team was nearly upset by Japan by 29-24 in 1983 at Cardiff. Australia defeated Wales 28-9 at Cardiff Arms Park. This was the most points scored against Wales in Cardiff by a team from outside the Five Nations and the first time they conceded a push-over try there. Wales were still respected by the time of the first official Rugby World Cup.
First Rugby World Cup is an International Rugby Union competition organized by the International Rugby Board in 1987. First Rugby World Cup is jointly hosted by New Zealand and Australia. Wales won all three pool matches and beat England in the quarter-finals, lost to the All Blacks in the semi-finals.
