Barcelona Announce Record Revenues Of 914m

FC Barcelona have announced record revenues of €914m for the 2017-2018 season, a trend that could allow the team to achieve an annual revenue of €1 billion by 2021.

“The board has valued the final balance of the year positively, and it’s in line with the strategic plan of the club to reach €1,000 million of income in 2021,” the club said.

One of the big reasons for such a massive income is the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017 for a world-record fee of €222m.

The amount of money received played a major role in recruiting French forward Ousmane Dembélé for €109.3 million and attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho for €120.2 million.

Those purchases helped drive up expenses to a record €882m, as Barcelona made an operating profit of €32 million with a net profit of €13 million after taxes. That is a decrease of €5m over the €18m profit the club made in the 2016-17 season.

Since 2010, and with exception of 2011 for the losses made on the transfer of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, FC Barcelona have always closed their accounts in the black.

Barcelona won a La Liga and Copa de Rey double last season and will compete in the Spanish Super Cup final against FC Sevilla in Europe’s gateway, Tangier, on August 12
