Mercato: Ozil To Inter?

Lots of rumors in the English and Italian newspapers on Sunday about Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil heading to the the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in January.

Arsenal reportedly want to get rid of the enigmatic Ozil, and his £300,000-a-week wages so much, they are prepared to sell him for as little as €28 million in the January transfer window.

Ozil’s agent will be in Milan this week to try and strum up some interest in his client. And there is no doubt that Luciano Spalletti could do with someone like Ozil in the lineup.

Inter have been searching for someone who can is capable of pulling the strings from a central position, and with Radja Nainggolan’s injury problems, Ozil should fit well into Spalletti’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

In Football Manager this is a good signing for Inter. But in the real world it will not work. Inter don’t have €28m to spend on Ozil in January. So the first thing they would have to do is convince Arsenal to send Ozil here on a six-month loan with an obligation to buy in the summer.

Even if Inter overcome that hurdle, Ozil’s wages are far beyond’s Inter’s reach. You cannot bring him in on twice the money that Icardi gets, without Wanda immediately knocking on the door asking for a pay raise, followed by Škriniar and Perisic.

It’s too big an outlay for a 30-year-old midfielder who will have no resale value. It’s a bad financial deal and one that Inter should avoid.
