Mercato: Real Madrid Begin Tapping Up Of Icardi

Everyone in football knows that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez needs to make a big splash in the transfer market this summer following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

Perez made that crystal clear on Thursday at the introduction of their new signing Alvaro Odriozola, when he said

“We have a great squad that is going to be reinforced with fantastic players”

With striker Karim Benzema reportedly on his way to Napoli, Madrid need two strikers, so it was interesting to see this morning that Marca, the mouthpiece of Real Madrid was all over Mauro Icardi.

Icardi would be a direct replacement for Benzema (Eden Hazard replaces Ronaldo) and Marca talks up the fact that Wanda Nara had discussions back in January about a move to Madrid.

Marca mistakenly believes that Icardi’s release clause is still €110m, which is so out of touch in a market where goalkeepers are going for €70m,

The belief in Madrid seems to be that to partially replace Ronaldo’s 40+ goals a season they need someone that is predator in the penalty box and that is Icardi who has scored 53 goals in the last two seasons.

Suning have been very resilient in being able to reject huge offer for Perisic and Škriniar in the last twelve months. But neither of them agitated for a move away from Inter. If Icardi turned in a transfer request, could Inter turn down a €150m offer for Icardi?

There is another side to this which is that Inter and Icardi are in negations over a new contract. Is Wanda playing Real Madrid’s interest to get more money from Inter?
