Mercato: Spalletti And Ausilio Disagree Of Midfield Priorities

There is apparently a disagreement at Inter between Luciano Spalletti and Piero Ausilio/Suning over who should be the next midfielder signed this summer.

Spalletti wants Inter to sign Mousa Dembele from Tottenham Hotspur, but Ausilio/Suning prefer Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.

Dembele, who is entering the last year of his contract with Tottenham, has been linked with Inter for most of June now as Spurs are faced with selling him this summer, or seeing him walk away for free next summer.

But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is one of the hardest negotiators in football and he is holding out for €30m for Dembele. A price that is too rich for Inter.

Carvalho is an interesting option in that he walked away from Sporting this summer, along with several of his teammates, after been attacked by fans at the club’s training ground. Carvalho, along with the likes of Gelson Martins, Bas Dost and Rui Patricio all filed a lawsuit to cancel their contracts and he will be available on a free transfer.

Even though Carvalho will demand high wages to compensate for the free transfer, that is still more attractive to Suning than paying €30m for Dembele.

Carvalho is four years younger than Dembele, and will cost less than the Spurs man in terms of transfer fee and wages. Is Spalletti wrong here? Would Carvalho not be the better signing?
