Yeah, this is what passes for news before training camp begins...
How hard is it to get news to talk about at this time of year? This hard:
.@17Fabbro on the online rumour mill: "I’m starting to see things on social media, getting tagged in a few things, guys saying 'play four years and sign with the Canucks...' But my mindset is with Nashville and BU right now."
— Sportsnet 650 (@Sportsnet650) August 16, 2018
Yup.
I suppose the fact that the Canucks are even involved in rumours is a sign there’s gonna be better times down the road, but man if not for the whole Trevor Linden saga this would have been one of the most boring summers yet for Canucks fans. Speaking of Linden, Sportsnet650 had Utica Comets GM/Dir. of Player Personnel Ryan Johnson on today
Ryan Johnson: "I’m not in a position to comment on what took place with Trevor. He’s a guy of integrity & honesty, and if you’re fortunate to speak to him he's always gonna make you feel like you're the greatest conversation he was gonna have that day. I always appreciated that."

And a great quote on the Comets mindset when it comes to callups:
Ryan Johnson: "We don’t put a timeline on these kids. If they go to the American League, we always say when they come up (to the NHL), we want them to come up and never go back. To be ready for the NHL -- not to go up for a game here and there but to come up and not come back."

And yesterday, Iain MacIntyre spoke of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s hope it’s not an oncoming train...
Anyway, let’s shift focus to our Lord and Saviour: Brock Boeser. If you haven’t been keeping track of his progress in Da Beauty League (a summer league for pros in Minnesota), it would seem his wrist is just fine, thank you very much.

Boeser spoke with TSN1040 yesterday about the upcoming season, his desire to take on a leadership role with the team and letting his agent worry about a contract extension...
ICYMI Brock Boeser: Ready to take a bigger role, be a leader and produce offensively for #Canucks; will let agent deal with contract

Olli Juolevi is going to be under the spotlight in the coming weeks, and Ben Kuzma looks at his past few months, and preparing for his most important camp to date...
Just gonna leave this here...

Some takes are hotter than others...
DT: Michael DiPietro may be too good & it may end up hurting Windsor. Ideally, Warren Rychel would keep him until January & flip him to a contender for a huge return but I’m hearing rumblings the Canucks are seriously contemplating keeping him in the NHL if he has a good camp.
— NA Central Scouting (@MarkSeidel) August 13, 2018
Forget that he’s implying that DiPietro would make the team over Demko. He’s also suggesting he would beat out Anders Nilsson. Take it with a grain of salt from the guy who hired this dude at Central Scouting
Speaking of DiPietro, TSN has him as the favorite to be the starter for Team Canada at this year’s WJC (in Vancouver and Victoria)
.@CraigJButton gives his projected Team #WorldJuniors roster following the #WJCShowcase and the #HlinkaGretzkyCup.

And yeah, you might have heard that the Canucks are one of two teams that won’t be featured on NBC this upcoming season. While I feel for our American friends, chances are if you’re a Canucks fan down there you’ve got Center Ice or some similar package, so it’s not the big outrage thing. If there’s a downside to it, it’s that it reduces exposure for a guy like Elias Pettersson if he were to be having a potential rookie of the year type season, similar to what Brock Boeser had before his injury.
NBC is diversifying their NHL coverage this season. You'll be able to catch both Washington at Chicago *and* Chicago at Washington. pic.twitter.com/ycnevhUkOC
