The Press Box Sports Adam Duval Hits first career walk-off home run in Reds extra innings victory

The Cincinnati Reds pulled out a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets in extra innings. Adam Duval came in to pinch hit in the bottom of the 10th inning to face AJ Ramos. The outfielder drilled a fastball over the left-field wall to give Cincinnati their second straight win. It was the sixth homer of the season and the first career walk-off home run for Duval who has been struggling as of late. He had a .169 average going into the game. The walk-off homer may be what the 29-year-old needs to get his season back on track.

Solid pitching is something you haven’t heard much about with the Reds this year, but Sal Romano put on a show for Cincinnati on the mound. Romano gave up just four hits in six innings, striking out seven in the process. He gave up a run in the third when Asdrubal Cabrera drove in Brandon Nimmo. Romano. Romano threw just 95 pitches on the day and lowered his era to 3.83 for the season. Jared Hughes and Amir Garret pitched scoreless innings while Raisel Iglesias was lights out on the last two innings. The closer struck out three and received the win.

The Reds tied up the game in the sixth when Joey Votto drove in Jesse Winker. The pitching battle between the teams stayed fierce until the 10th inning when Adam Duval worked his magic. This could be the catalyst that can right the ship for the Reds. Now at 10-27 this season, Cincinnati needs a wake-up call. The game-winning blast by Duval may do the trick.

There was some confusion at the start of the game though which was a small blow for the Mets. Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-out double in the top of the first inning. The problem was that Cabrera was supposed to bat second according to one lineup card. Yep, Mets manager Mickey Callaway accidentally had Cabrera batting third on the card given to the umpires, but batting second on the one handed to the media. That’s a violation per MLB rules and an automatic out given to the Mets. Reds skipper Jim Riggleman brought it to the umpires’ attention, where the next batter Jay Bruce was ruled out.
