Arsenal Legend Reportedly Secures Coveted Managerial Job | Auditioning For The Emirates Role ?

Championship Club Aston Villa are on a lookout for a new manager after parting ways with Steve Bruce earlier this week, who lead the club to the Championship play-off final last season after a poor run of form involving merely 1 win out of 9 league fixtures and it looks like Arsenal’s all time top goalscorer Thierry Henry might be the man for the job.

In recent years, a reasonable number of former players are taking up managerial positions including the likes of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Zinedine Zidane, Gennaro Gattuso and it’s speculated that Thierry Henry might be an addition to that list. The Frenchman had quit his £4 million-a-year role as a Sky Sports pundit to fulfill his “long-term ambition to become a football manager” in July of this year. After being the No.2 for Roberto Martinez as Belgium went on to claim the 3rd place at the World Cup, the former Arsenal and Barcelona forward may want a managerial role to reach his ambition.

It is reported that Aston Villa’s hunt for a new head coach has 3 candidates shortlisted: Henry, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and ex-Manchester United assistant Rui Faria. Rodgers has attained promotion with Swansea in 2011 and became the first manager to win a domestic double treble last season, making him a desirable replacement.

Faria has had experience working alongside Jose Mourinho at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid but left United last May for personal reasons. However, Rodgers seems to have shunned the rumors by telling SkySports,

“Aston Villa is one of the biggest clubs in Britain, in the Championship of course, but it really is a Premier League club that will want to get back in there as quickly as they can. I’m sure they’ll get a manager that fits for them, but for me I’ve got a big job to do here at Celtic.”

However, what’s intriguing is a possible coaching partnership between Henry and ex-Chelsea legend John Terry. The defender captained the Championship outfit last season as they almost achieved promotion before eventually losing out in the play-offs. Villa’s board is reportedly keen to introduce the two premier league icons in managerial roles to re-energise the club and try to salvage the disappointing start to the season.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes both Henry and Terry can be a crucial aspect to get the club back to the top-flight. He insisted

“I think Henry always had the makings of being an outstanding manager, there’s no doubt about that. He feels fit to bring Terry as his assistant, he will know the club exceptionally well, of course he will. He’s only just left the football club. I dearly hope that Villa can get back to where they once were as a football club.”

I believe that Henry has a long road ahead of him and Villa is a team which belongs in the premier league. Achieving promotion for the club will prove his competence and quality as a manager. With the experience of being No.2 to Martinez’s Belgium and over 250 appearances in English football, Henry has the potential to prosper at the Villa Park.
