Barcelona have made another big move and have successfully beaten off competition from Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City to make sure they do not get their hands on Sergi Roberto.

The two Premier League giants are just two of other big names that were interested in the player who had a 40 million euro buy-out clause in his last deal.

Barcelona had been in negotiations with Pique and Roberto since the final months of last year and after Pique’s deal was announced, it was only a matter of time for the confirmation from the club on Sergi Roberto.

“FC Barcelona and Sergi Roberto have reached an agreement on a contract renewal, which will keep the player at the Camp Nou through to 30 June 2022.” a statement read.

“His buyout clause has been set at 500m euros.”

                          

The club would subsequently announce the date for his official signing.

Sergi Roberto came up through La Masia and is the most recent graduate to establish himself in the Barcelona first team.

He joined the club at 14 and has rapidly progressed to one of the key players in the team, especially for his versatility.

Roberto made his official first team debut on 10 November 2010, in a 5-1 Copa del Rey win against Ceuta at the Camp Nou.

And has won every collective honour imaginable at FC Barcelona. The versatile player has been a winner of 4 LaLiga titles, 2 Champions Leagues, 4 Copa del Reys, 4 Spanish Supercopas, 2 European Supercups and 2 Club World Cups. He has made 178 appearances for Barça and scored 7 goals.


Fans still remember his goal in a seemingly impossible comeback against PSG last season in the Champions League.
