Some of us can’t wait for the Champions League to start, while some of us are happy for another midweek Championship round. As always, things will be tough for a lot of teams in this gameweek, but we will certainly see a lot of excitement. These are the Championship Predictions for this midweek round.

Brentford vs Sheffield United

Brentford managed to get only one win in their last ten matches, they are in awful form but their performance is much better than their results. Sheffield United has struggled lately and they need a win as soon as possible, but their current form isn’t Excellent too. I Expect both teams to score in this one, both managers are playing attacking style of football and both teams will go for a win. Although Sheffield United should be winning matches like this considering the form, I believe that Brentford won’t let them get all three points that easy.

Draw: 2-2

Hull vs Norwich

Norwich scored 4 goals in every single one of their last three matches and they have played against much better teams than Hull. Only pressure or too much confidence can make Norwich lose points against Hull on Tuesday. Teemu Pukki now has ten goals in Championship for Norwich and I expect him to continue that form on Tuesday. I expect a lot of goals once again as Norwich is scoring a lot lately and Hull is awful when it comes to defending.

Norwich to win: 1-3

Leeds vs Reading

Reading is getting better lately, but they are still not good enough to compete with teams like Leeds. They have finally got out of the relegation zone, but thing may easily change for them after this match. It’s not only that Leeds United is the better team, their form, style of football and ambition are all very different from Reading. It should be expected for Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez to continue their form as this should be an easy game for Leeds.

Leeds to win: 2-0

Preston vs Middlesbrough

I know that Middlesbrough is waiting for their chance to take the first spot and everyone expects them to win matches like this, but I believe that Preston can stay unbeaten. Preston is in excellent form, they were struggling at the bottom, but now they are moving up as expected. They have a good team and they will certainly try to get more possession and create more chances in this one. I don’t expect Middlesbrough to lose and draw seems to be the most likely outcome of this match.

Draw: 1-1

Rotherham vs QPR

Although he is 36 years old, a lot of clubs are interested in Angel Rangel and he managed to score two goals against Stoke City to get QPR a point. Rotherham is good at home, they have managed to get a late equalizer against Sheffield United in their last match, but I think that Rotherham will lose at home this time. QPR is in excellent form, they are having the same amount of points as Aston Villa and they are working hard to get to the play-offs. They were solid away from home so far, but matches like this are perfect for them to improve their away performance even more.


QPR to win: 1-2

Sheffield Wednesday vs Bolton

Looking at the current form, Bolton is by far the worst team in Championship. They are losing against everyone but their away performance is slightly better than their form at home. However, this shouldn’t be a tough match for Sheffield Wednesday, they are in bad form but matches like this should be easy for any team in Championship. They have an advantage of playing at home, they have been in better form this season and their team has much more quality. For me, Sheffield Wednesday should be winning matches like this.

Sheffield Wednesday to win: 2-0

Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest

Aston Villa has been excellent at home this season and lately they have been getting back in good form, however Nottingham Forest is very tough opponent and this match will not be easy at all for Dean Smith and his team. With Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest is the team with most draws this season. Aitor Karanka is well known by the fact that defensive football can win you the promotion, so I expect Nottingham Forest to be very careful in this one. I believe that both teams will score, but I am not sure if any team is good enough to score more than the other.

Draw: 1-1

Ipswich vs Bristol City

This is not the first time that I am expecting Ipswich to win at home this season, but this time that outcome is quite realistic. Ipswich is in better form since they’ve sacked Paul Hurst, they are getting some points and they are playing better. The fact that they haven’t won a single match at home this season is another reason to believe that they will achieve that now, they has to be motivated to do it. Bristol City currently isn’t at their best, so it wouldn’t be very surprising if they were to lose against Ipswich.

Ipswich to win: 2-1

Millwall s Birmingham

Millwall conceded at home in almost every match this season and it should be expected for them to concede once again on Wednesday. Birmingham has an excellent team, they are very dangerous in attack and after their bad results lately they will be very motivated to go for a win. Lukas Jutkiewicz has 10 goals and 3 assists so far this season so I expect him to continue that form against Millwall. Although Millwall is excellent at home, I expect Birmingham to win this one.

Swansea vs West Bromwich Albion

After conceding four against Norwich, Swansea has certainly been practicing defence and trying to improve. Their match against WBA is the perfect opportunity for them to show everyone if they managed to organize their defence better. WBA is an excellent team; they are one of the biggest candidates for direct promotion this season. I expect Dwight Gayle to start this one since he has been fit in last two matches. Although I expect Swansea to provide a good fight, I think that WBA is currently much better than them.

WBA to win: 1-3

Wigan vs Blackburn

These two teams managed to do a lot in Championship this season, but this time only one of them can win. Wigan is excellent at home, while Blackburn has been much better in away games. I don’t expect a lot of goals from this one. Wigan hasn’t been as good as they were at the start of the season, but they are still one of the best teams in Championship when it comes to home performance. I am sure that there will be action on both sides, but for me Wigan is having a better chance to win.

Wigan to win: 1-0

Stoke vs Derby County

Last match in this midweek round will be the clash between Stoke City and Derby County. Stoke City desperately tries to get in form, but they need to change a lot of things in January. Derby County has an excellent team; they are competing for the direct promotion and they have been in excellent form this season. Although I expect a tough match, I think that Derby County is having a better chance to win.
