Championship Predictions: Middlesbrough, Leeds and Ipswich to win?

Championship just started, but a lot of clubs are already favorites and contenders for a promotion. Considering the fact that transfer window closes on Friday, managers can finally be certain that their teams won’t lose any more players. Quite a lot of teams managed to get only one point in first gameweek, so most of them will be trying harder to win this time as every team wants a good start of the season.

Aston Villa vs Wigan

If this was an away game for Aston Villa it could’ve been much harder. Wigan has a good squad, they are particularly dangerous in attack and they can certainly score against Villa, but it’s very hard to defend in away game against Aston Villa, so the newly promoted side will probably concede too. If Steve Bruce manages to keep Jack Grealish, their excellent attack will continue to be as good as they are now. I expect both sides to score, with Aston Villa having a better chance to win.

Aston Villa to win: 2-1

Blackburn vs Millwall

Millwall couldn’t manage to keep their lead against Middlesbrough on Saturday, while Blackburn had an excellent away performance in Ipswich. Blackburn lost only two home games last season in League One, and they can easily continue that form against Millwall. Danny Graham and Bradley Dack can make a difference once again as they have both scored for Blackburn in their first game against Ipswich on Saturday. I wouldn’t expect too many goals in this game as both clubs are excellent in defence.

Blackburn to win: 1-0

Bolton vs Bristol City

Bolton started their season in a best way possible. They’ve got an away win against WBA and now they have a home game against Bristol City. Bolton has always been good at home, it’s their away performance that they needed to improve, and it looks like they did it. Bristol City needs a win now, as they have only managed to get a point in their opening game against Nottingham Forest. I expect a lot of goals from this one, both clubs will go for a win and both clubs are excellent in attack, but it’s hard to say if any of these two sides is better than the other.

Draw: 2-2

Middlesbrough vs Birmingham

Although Adama Traore signed for Wolves, Middlesbrough managed to get a 3-0 win against Sheffield United on Tuesday. They have signed a West Ham forward Jordan Hugill on loan and until their game against Birmingham they will probably sign more players. However, their starting line-up will probably be the same as the one against Sheffield United. Garry Monk will try his attacking football again as Birmingham were unlucky on Saturday when Norwich scored a late equalizer. Although Middlesbrough has an excellent defence, both teams will probably score, but with their form from the last match, Middlesbrough is having a better chance to win.

Middlesbrough to win: 2-1

Norwich vs WBA

West Bromwich Albion hasn’t made a perfect start of the season, they’ve lost their first game against Bolton and they only managed to get a point against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. However, their away performance against Nottingham Forest was excellent, so we can expect the same here against Norwich. Norwich hasn’t been great at home last season, and here is the chance for us to see if they have improved their home performance. But if we look at their teams and their performances so far, WBA is simply better in both.

WBA to win: 0-1

Nottingham Forest vs Reading

As same as WBA, Nottingham Forest also hasn’t made a perfect start, but now they have an easy task in front of them. Reading was excellent against Derby County, but their defence concedes too many, and their attack doesn’t seem to be strong enough to score against a defensive side like Nottingham Forest. This game is actually a perfect opportunity for Aitor Karanka to start his winning run and there is no doubt that Nottingham Forest will work hard to finally get a win.

Nottingham Forest to win: 1-0

QPR vs Sheffield United

Sheffield United is struggling, they have lost both of their first games and now they have to work really hard to improve their performance. QPR is much better when they play at home, so we can expect a lot of goals from this one. Both teams will probably score and both teams need to go for a win, but is any of these two sides capable of beating the other? I wouldn’t say so. This game can easily finish with clubs splitting the points.

Draw: 1-1

Rotherham vs Ipswich

Once again, Ipswich is lucky enough to play against newly promoted side. They have managed to get a late equalizer in their opening game against Blackburn, but this time they will certainly go for a win. Rotherham doesn’t have much to show, they are the biggest candidate for the relegation and although they can’t afford to lose, Ipswich is simply having a much better squad.

Ipswich to win: 0-2

Sheffield Wednesday vs Hull

Both clubs have lost their first game, but Hull had a much tougher opponent in their opener. As a matter of fact, Hull had a really good performance against Aston Villa, but their defence just couldn’t deal with such an excellent attack. Sheffield Wednesday managed to score two against Wigan, but that wasn’t good enough for them to get at least a point. Once again this is the game in which the teams are much better in attack then they are at defending, so we can expect a lot of goals here too. Although Sheffield Wednesday plays at home, I’m not so optimistic about their season and I believe that Hull can provide a much better performance.

Hull to win: 1-2

Stoke vs Brentford

Stoke City lost their first game as Leeds United was absolutely dominant in the field. However, that result shouldn’t affect Gary Rowett’s side too much, they have an excellent squad full of the Premier League experienced players, they play at home this time and their opponent is less dangerous than Leeds United. Brentford had an amazing 5-1 win against Rotherham, but it will be hard for their defence to keep Stoke City from scoring on Saturday.

Stoke to win: 2-0

Swansea vs Preston

Both clubs won their first game so they will certainly feel less pressure in this one. Welsh side managed to get a late winner against Sheffield United while Preston won at home with only one goal against QPR. Both clubs are excellent in defence and we shouldn’t expect a lot of goals in this one. Although Swansea is playing at home, this game can easily finish with both teams keeping a clean sheet.

Draw: 0-0

Derby County vs Leeds

Both clubs had an excellent start, Derby County managed to get a late win against Reading, while leads united defeated Stoke City with 3-1. This will certainly be the most exciting match in this gameweek, both sides are playing an attractive football and both sides are expected to fight for a promotion this season. From what we saw in their first games, Leeds United played much better than Derby County. They were confident in both attack and defence and they looked like a Premier League side, so although Derby is a tough opponent, Leeds United is having a better chance to win.

Leeds to win: 1-2
