Huddersfield Town newcomer Laurent Depoitre says fans will like his work ethic

The Premier League newcomers Huddersfield Town have signed the Porto striker Laurent Depoitre in a transfer, which is believed to be a club-record. According to different reports the fee paid by the Terriers is around £3.5 million.

Depoitre is a 28-year-old Belgian international. He has signed a 2-year contract with an option for the club to extend it for an additional year.

“I am very happy that we have made Laurent our first signing of this summer window. “He is a proper striker; one who has played for a very good Belgium side, featured in elite European competition and who has won domestic titles”, said the Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner.

The German said that The Terriers should be happy to have had the opportunity to sign a player of Depoitre’s quality. However, Wagner stressed that the coaching staff now needs to “focus on getting him back to the top form he showed only a season ago”. He believes the Laurent Depoitre is “a real worker”and will fit the “Terriers identity”. “His attitude on the pitch is exactly what we need, plus he is a very good character off the field too”, explained Wagner.

Laurent dreamed of playing in the Premier League

“I’m very happy to be part of this team now. The transfer has been done quickly and I hope we do great things together”, said Laurent to Huddersfield Town TV. The player said that he has “always dreamed of playing in the Premier League, so when Huddersfield came I thought it was the ideal club”.

He said that David Wagner has explained to him the way Huddersfield plays and the mentality he expects from his players. “I think I can be useful to his way of playing. I’m a target man, a hard worker, I can keep the ball and I’m strong in the air. I fit the profile of English football”, explained Depoitre and added that in every club he has gone to, the fans liked his work ethic. “I fight for every ball. I don’t like to lose it, so if I do I always fight to get it back”, added the Belgian striker.

According to the The Huddersfield Daily Examiner, Depoitre is a strong centre-forward, who is capable of holding defenders off and bringing his teammates into play. He is 6’3 inch (1.90 meters) tall striker who is also strong in the air and has “a nose for goal”, as described by the paper. He has become popular in 2014 while playing for Belgian first division club K.A.A. Gent.

Depoitre has scored 26 goals in 67 appearances for Gent, including one in the Champions League against the Russian side Zenit. last season he has moved to Porto on a £5.2 Million (€6 million)  transfer. However, he has struggled establish himself as regular starter at Porto and scored 2 goals in 13 appearances.
