5 reasons why Santiago Solari shouldn’t have been appointed as Real Madrid manager

After a disappointing start to their season under Julen Lopetegui, Real Madrid recently appointed former All Whites player Santiago Solari as their permanent manager. But is it a wise move?

The Argentine started his time at the Spanish capital with 4 consecutive wins, scoring 15 goals and conceding just 2. While that is one hell of a start to his managerial career at Real Madrid, is he really the best man for the job?

Here are five reasons why appointing Santiago Solari might be the wrong move from Florentino Perez:

5. Comparison with Zidane:

Zinedine Zidane was the best thing that could ever happen to Real Madrid after their disappointing time under Rafa Benitez. The Frenchman led Los Blancos to three consecutive Champions League title and stepped down as the legend of the Santiago Bernabeu.

And by the looks of it, Solari’s situation is very similar to that of Zidane. The Argentine has been appointed mid-season after the previous manager’s sacking while he was in charge of the B team. Just like Zizou, Solari has also played at Real Madrid and was a part of 2001-02 UCL winning side.

But comparing him to Zidane and expecting similar results will only make things difficult for Solari. With all due respect to the Argentine, Zidane, both as a player and manager, is at a completely different level. The Frenchman’s name was enough to silence the egos of Ramos and Ronaldo. With the comparisons, Solari has been put under even more pressure and we all know what happens to a Real Madrid manager under extreme pressure.
