“I don’t really take much notice of it”: Another Premier League player ignores Chelsea Links

Chelsea is finding it difficult to restructure their squad for the upcoming season, with yet another Premier League player ignoring Chelsea rumors.

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has been on Chelsea’s radar after his crucial role in keeping the Magpies in the Premier League. But the English defender is not paying any attention to the rumors and wants to continue with the Newcastle United.

Another Player Rejects Chelsea?

The center-back is regarded highly by the Chelsea administration and is considered as a long-term replacement for Gary Cahill. Lascelles made 33 appearances in the Premier League last season and helped his club to finish 10th in the table. The defender has signed a new contract last year which will keep him at the St. James Park until 2023. But a transfer fee of £30m is rumored to be the price for taking the Englishman away from the Magpies.

But Lascelles himself has decided to ignore the transfer rumors for a time being and is focusing on the upcoming season.

“‘I don’t really take much notice of it. Since I was 16, there’s always been speculation and interest from clubs.” Lascelles told Shields Gazette. “My dad’s always said to me, and he still says now, don’t take any notice of it – just concentrate on your job, work hard and be the best player you can be. Your football will take care of yourself if you do that.”

“I’m happy, I’m a Newcastle player. I’m still tied down to a long contract. It’s about having a good pre-season and starting the season right.”

Chelsea is eager to kick-start a new campaign by strengthening their squad under newly appointed manager Maurizio Sarri. But the Blues have failed to acquire any big signings except Jorginho who followed his manager to Chelsea. Chelsea is still in the market for a goalkeeper as Courtois is eager to join Real Madrid.

Author’s Take:

Just like last season, Chelsea’s transfer business looks to be going nowhere. The Blues need a quality goalkeeper, striker, and a center-back but they are nowhere close to signing either one of them. Lascelles’s denial looks to be another blow to Chelsea’s hopes but Newcastle might allow the player to leave for a little more money.
