Arsene Wenger wants Liverpool and Real Madrid target signed during the summer

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has re-updated his shortlist and wants to bring in Liverpool and Real Madrid’s Ligue 1 target to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have been spending very heavily on their front line despite both fans and critics suggesting that they should be upgrading their back-line. However, with the additions of both Alexandre Lacazette during the summer window and both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the winter window, Arsenal have spent a grand total close to nearly €120 million on attackers.

But despite that Arsene Wenger is still not pleased and according to the Daily Mail, wants to bring in Lyon star Nabil Fekir. The 24-year-old has been in exceptional form for the Ligue 1 side, scoring 16 goals in 22 league games, with nine in his last 15 Ligue 1 appearances making up for the absence of departed Alexandre Lacazette.

Not only that, Fekir has taken over the captaincy with the club losing both Maxime Gonalons and vice-captain Alexandre Lacazette. The report from the Daily Mail by Steve Stammers further adds, ”Wenger has tracked Fekir’s development closely, while he has also been watched by Arsenal’s French scout Gilles Grimandi.

The fee that Arsene Wenger has quoted is said to be around £ 45 million, but the big question is why are they after the Frenchman. With the likes of Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Henrikh Mkhitaryan to provide the creative inspiration, many wonder why are Arsenal after Nabil Fekir despite the 24-year-old’s obvious talents. The Frenchman is after-all a Wenger-esque player with a delightful cocktail of vision, technique and finishing prowess.

However, with all their defensive problems the Gunners have also shortlisted both Johnny Evans and Kostas Manolas, and are also reported chasing Manchester United star, Luke Shaw.

Author’s take:

While Nabil Fekir would definitely be a quality addition to a star-studded and creativity loaded Arsenal team, £45 million is most certainly far too much to be spending in this kind highly inflated transfer window, given their obvious defensive problems. What both Arsene Wenger and Arsenal should be aiming at is strengthening their defense and looking for a long-term replacement for captain Laurent Koscienly.
