Chelsea to replace Conte with former Blues boss

According to the Daily Record, Chelsea have lined up Carlo Ancelotti to replace the Italian Antonio Conte this summer.

Conte was appointed as the Chelsea manager at the start of the 2016-17 season, where he helped the Blues clinch their 6th premier league title. Conte has found himself at crossroads with the authorities of the club after a rough start to the season and repeated rows over the transfer policy. As per Ian McGarry of the Daily Record, Chelsea are not willing to continue with Conte after this season and believe Ancelotti as the right person to take over.

He also claims that the ex-Chelsea manager has held talks with club owner Roman Abramovich over a potential return to Stamford Bridge.

He also went on to talk about the possibility of Ancelotti returning back to PSG who are also on the lookout for a new manager, He said: “Ancelotti will not be returning to PSG because he will be moving back to London in February.”

McGarry on Conte’s current situation

Chelsea boardroom has apparently decided that Conte will be sacked if the team performs badly in the Champions League. McGarry said: “Indeed, if things go badly in the Champions League knockout stages then he may even be away before then and Carlo will be in situ. That’s what will be happening.”

McGarry concluded by saying that Conte would definitely be gone by the next season, He also added that Abramovich came to terms in realizing that sacking Ancelotti was a “huge mistake” and was “premature”.

Ancelotti was previously appointed as Chelsea’s manager in 2009, where he led the club to win the Premier League and the FA Cup double before getting sacked in May 2011.

Ancelotti was recently spotted at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea’s Champions League clash against AS Roma.

Ancelotti has then proceeded to manage some high profile European clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

He was recently sacked by Bayern Munich earlier this year and was replaced with Jupp Heynckes.

Author’s Take

Chelsea’s trend to sack manager continues as yet another one is set to bite the dust. Conte has come to terms with the pressure of the Premier League and Champions League all at once. This was something which he did not experience the previous season. Chelsea’s season so far has not gone like a breeze as they would have hoped to.

They are currently a whopping 14 points away from the top and also failed to top their Champions League group table. With Chelsea drawn against the undefeated Barcelona in the round of 16, it seems like Ancelotti would be in charge much sooner than expected.
