Dhoni in Chepauk: Big sixes, CSK and much more

MS Dhoni, who is also the ambassador of TNPL, participated in a friendly ‘maximum six-hitting’ competition with former Australian opener and CSK team mate Mathew Hayden where he hit three consecutive sixes that were enough to fill the crowd with delight. There could be no better inauguration for the Tamil Nadu Premiere League than former Indian Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashing back to back sixes in the inaugural event which was held at Chepauk Stadium.

CSK touch in the event:

Chepauk was the home ground of CSK and captain cool drew a huge amount of applaud from the crowd when he attended the event in the yellow jersey. A few days back, Dhoni had posted a picture on Twitter in Yellow Jersey with ‘Thala’ written on the back. The picture was interpreted as the announcement of his return to CSK but it was clarified later that the picture was meant for the promotion of TNPL. The event was also attended by the likes of Mohit Sharma and N. Srinivas who were associated with CSK.

Dhoni has been associated with The Rising Pune Supergiants franchise since the suspension of CSK for two years because of the involvement of its members in the IPL spot fixing scandal of 2013. But with Pune Supergiants ending the contract with IPL, Dhoni’s come back to CSK is almost certain.

Appreciating the Tamil Nadu League, Dhoni said that the best players of Tamil Nadu play together under different circumstances which give them a lot of exposure. He also added that after playing one season, the game of players improves automatically from the next one.

‘We were not there but fans supported us’: Dhoni

When asked about the comeback of Chennai Super Kings in coming IPL season, Dhoni said that CSK has the biggest fan following. “In the last two years, we were not there but the fans supported us, it was as if they were waiting for us to come back”, he added.

The three-time IPL winning captain didn’t have a good run with Pune Supergiants. His performance was average and in last season has lost the captaincy as well to Steve Smith. Fans are hoping that with the return of CSK, they will get to witness the old destructive Dhoni.
