One in, one out! Leno arrives at Arsenal but Wilshere quits

Arsenal coach Unai Emery has spoken of the excitement of recruiting German keeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen for around £20million.

But as Leno prepares to get down to business with the Gunners, much-loved midfielder Jack Wilshere is getting ready to say goodbye to the Club he has been with since he was a kid.

Wilshere is quitting the Emirates to seek pastures new after being told by Emery, who replaced long serving boss Arsene Wenger at the end of last season, that he would not be guaranteed first team football and in you fancy placing a bet on wilshere’s next club use the online promo from unibet.

The playmaker says he will leave when his deal expires at the end of this month after 197 first-team appearances. And he said that ultimately, he was left with little choice but to make the decision based on purely footballing reasons.

He wrote on Instagram: “Such was my desire to stay that I had in fact recently agreed to sign a financially reduced contract in order to commit my future to the club.

“My intention throughout these discussions has always been to remain an Arsenal player. I have been on the books at Arsenal for 17 years and have always felt part of the fabric of the club. Following my meeting with the new manager I was made aware that although the reduced contract offer remained, it was made clear to me that my playing time would be significantly reduced should I decide to stay.

“I am sure everyone can understand that at this point in my life and career I need to be playing first-team football and following my meeting with Mr Emery I came away feeling that it would be very difficult for me to do so at Arsenal. Given this, I feel I have no option but to pursue other opportunities in order to progress my career on the pitch.”

Meanwhile, Leno is another new face at the club under the new man in charge. He has made more than 230 appearances for Leverkusen in more than seven seasons with the Bundesliga side.

And Emery has spoken of the excitement of recruiting him and said: “We are very pleased that Bernd Leno will be joining us. Bernd is a goalkeeper of high quality and experience. He has been a top performer and regular number one goalkeeper with Leverkusen in the Bundesliga for the past seven years. We are all excited that Bernd has chosen Arsenal Football Club and look forward to start working with him in pre-season.”

Leno, for his part, said: “I enjoyed the time in Leverkusen from the first to the last day. I am very grateful for the fact that the club has already had the status of number 1 as a 19-year-old.

“After a fantastic seven years, I will now continue my journey in another very exciting league. But I am sure that we will meet again more often on an international level.”
