News - VHP - Cow Protection

The three-day Hindu Dharma Sansad which concluded at Udupi on Sunday, has demanded the Centre to declare Cow as the national animal and protect it as per a report by Kevin Mendonsa in the Times of India

While voicing concern over increasing incidents of Cow Slaughter where real gau rakshaks were being targeted and eliminated by people involved in illegal slaughter of cows, Surendra Kumar Jain, International Joint Secretary of VHP said that the VHP has resolved to urge the Centre to make Cow the national animal.

"In the past three years, 200 such incidents were being reported across the country. Our investigation has revealed that only in 14-15 cases, our members were directly involved and rest were fabricated against us. Cow protection is moral and legal right of Hindus. Gau Hatya (Cow slaughter) is hurting the sentiments of Hindus across country. It should stop by any chance. Law should deal with an iron hand against those persons involved in cow killings.”

Slamming political parties in Karnataka and Kerala for arranging beef parties and overtly supporting cow slaughter, he said that because of these people, the Hindu community is disturbed.
Stressing that encroachment of gomala land has meant that cows are not getting enough fodder, he said that this should be cleared as this land is not for political leaders to build commercial complexes.

While opposing the Centre’s recent order to prepare a dossier on cow vigilantes, Surendra Jain said that this dossier should be withdrawn and the government should instead prepare a dossier on those involved in Cow Theft and slaughter.

Among other resolutions passed at the Sansad were Dna Testing during meat export, Gau Mantralaya protection of Gomala land and action against cow theft and slaughter.

To ensure that in the name of beef, cow meat is not exported to other countries, Surendra Jain demanded the setting up of a DNA testing centre.

While condemning attacks by fake cow vigilantes which claimed the lives of people, he said, "We condemn such attacks in the name of Gau Rakshaks which resulted in bad name to real ones. Law will take action against such."
