Crown of Knowledge and Staff of Understanding

“Knowledge and Understanding are life’s faithful companions who will never prove untrue to you. For Knowledge is your crown, and understanding your staff and when they are with you, you can possess no greater treasure.

“He who understands you is greater kin to you than your own brother. For even your own kindred my neither understand you or know your true worth.

“God has bestowed upon you intelligence and knowledge. Do not extinguish the lamp of Divine Grace and do not let the candle of wisdom die out in the darkness of lust and error. For a wise man approaches with his torch to light up the path of mankind.” ~Kahlil Gibran

Crown of Knowledge

True knowledge is indeed the crown. The crown of achievement greater than and man-made trophy. A crown of light brighter that the brightest intellectual who still relies on theory and opinion, while the one with Divine Knowledge simply knows.

Knowledge and Understanding

People who have knowledge may sometimes lack understanding, especially when their knowledge is limited to the knowledge of matter and mind. They may because of egotism, act and talk as if they are superior to others. They may even belittle others who are less educated, or otherwise beneath them (in their opinion).

Those who have achieved Divine Knowledge don’t suffer from this fault. Part of this true knowledge is understanding our brothers and sisters. They understand that simply because they are a step or two ahead of other on the stairway to heaven, they are far from the top and still have much to learn themselves. Understanding that at one time they too were on those lower steps makes them want to reach back and grab their brother by the hand and pull him forward, not give him a shove and laugh as he tumbles back down.

The path of spiritual enlightenment is definitely not a competition. The higher other climb, the more it helps each of us who are also on the path. Understanding others helps and comes with true knowledge. So keep that crown of knowledge on straight and well polished so your light shines to all.

Lamp of Grace

Gibran cautions us to not extinguish the lamp of Divine Grace or let our candle of wisdom and knowledge go out. A candle will go out if it is not replenished. The lamp will go out if it runs out of fuel. So we don’t even have to try to extinguish our knowledge and understanding, they will just go out if not replenished. We refuel them with the light of the sun. At first, it is with the light of the physical sun, but as we reach higher levels, it must be with the light of the spiritual sun. If we don’t take in that light, our lamp and our candle will go out. Our knowledge and understanding will fade much like a person going senile.

If you have had an elderly relative go senile, or suffer some form of dementia, you know it is not a pleasant thing to see. It is even worse to see a person who has awakened spiritually become dim and materialistic again. Don’t be that person.

Another Crown of Knowledge

Kings may have been given crowns of gold to show their rank. They borrowed this idea from ancient priests and holy men who wore a gold crown as a symbol of their spiritual awakening, of their oneness with the sun. But there is another crown of knowledge. It is the pineal gland, often called the third eye. This is the real crown of knowledge for when it is “awakened” with sunlight, it links us to the spiritual worlds and makes it possible for our spirits and souls to activate, to become conscious. Only then can we truly have divine knowledge and understanding.
