Showcasing Internet of Drones at AUVSI Xponential 2018

The AUVSI Xponential exhibition kicked off on May 1, 2018, in Denver this year. The event tag-lined “all things unmanned,” was a three-day event, full of emerging tech, advancements, and innovation in unmanned systems.

The event being the biggest in the UAV industry, commercial Drone applications were a major focus, and saw a lot of attention from drone solution providers, developers and industry experts alike; we at Flytbase were excited and prepared to show what we had in store, for the rest of the world to see.

700+ exhibitors and 8000+ leaders and innovators, FlytBase being one of them, showcased their latest advancements in UAV software, hardware, sensors, UTM and other related technologies. Experts from the industry came together to share perspectives and exchange ideas about shaping the present and future of the multi-billion dollar drone industry.

The stage was set and we were prepared to showcase the world’s first Internet of Drones (IoD) platform at Xponential 2018. Along with live demos of the tech, that we have built at FlytBase, we had two very exciting and detailed tech sessions on scaling drone applications using the IoD platform, by our Founder & CEO, Nitin Gupta.

FlytBase showcased the platform to automate drone application, where the focus was on building and scaling commercial drone applications, better and faster.

The live demo at our booth exhibited:

  • Drone fleet management capabilities
  • Widest hardware compatibility
  • 4G/LTE connectivity through the cloud
  • AI-based object detection.

We demonstrated various drones such as Aerotestra’s ATMK09 — a Pixhawk 2.1/Cube based drone with Nvidia TX2 running FlytOS, DJI Mavic Air and Virtual drone, which were all connected to FlytCloud over 4G/LTE — with their real-time navigation, telemetry and live video feed displayed on a single web-based dashboard. The same dashboard could be used to plan various missions for multiple drones, schedule them for a particular time of day or setup a routine, split the mission into parts for drone-fleet, and use the rule-based engine for auto drone selection and deployment to meet the high-level mission objectives.

Our aim was to demonstrate, how easy and fast it is to build scalable drone applications through the FlytBase platform. FlytBase is drone agnostic, you can build application-specific dashboards to manage and operate a hybrid fleet of automated drones – Achal Negi, Head of Business Development, FlytBase.

With the help of FlytBase AI, we exhibited live object detection, from the real-time video feed captured by the drone fleet, wherein the application was able to detect different types of objects like a person, tables, chairs, bags, etc.

FlytBase AI enables object detection, object counting, change/damage detection for applications like the wind turbine, pipeline, tower inspection, cattle counting, vehicle tracking and much more. – Dhiraj Dhule, Director of Strategic Projects, FlytBase.

Tech Sessions by FlytBase, Founder & CEO, Nitin Gupta at AUVSI Xponential 2018

Session by Nitin Gupta

Internet of Drones (IoD) Platform to Deploy Commercial Drones at Scale

The first session was focused on the challenges and solutions available for building large-scale drone applications, such as remote industrial inspections (with multiple vehicles), automated delivery networks for humanitarian/emergency applications, a network of drones for public safety. Case-studies from these applications were used to showcase the use of right tools, to deploy these powerful applications, efficiently.

Intelligence and Connectivity Platform for Next Generation Commercial Drones

The second and final session presented how FlytBase, an Internet of Drones (IoD) platform is helping customers deploy large fleets of intelligent drones, for a range of commercial applications, such as inspections, delivery, emergency response and warehouse management.

“As the industry is transitioning from an era of generic drones, that were largely manually operated, into an era of fully-automated, purpose-built commercial drones, with customised and highly-integrated workflows, the need for a robust and scalable software platform to accelerate the development of such applications is quite apparent. FlytBase has invested into building a platform that is well-positioned to address this need” concluded Nitin Gupta, Founder & CEO, FlytBase.

We look forward to next year’s AUVSI XPONENTIAL in Chicago, hoping to bring even more exciting and cutting-edge technology to the drone industry.
