Are You Considering Lightning Experience?

If not, you should. Here’s why!

Lightning Experience is a sleek, modern interface that helps your business operate faster and smarter. It includes entirely redesigned pages as well as many new features, such as

  • A customizable homepage that can improve user experience by presenting information and work needed right from login.
  • Enlarged dashboards allowing you to design dashboards with more than three columns for greater accessibility to information.
  • Smart, dynamic views featuring improved analytics and retention of the views that are most commonly accessed by you, and many others.

However, the decision whether or not to adopt Lightning Experience may depend on your existing apps.  For example, what if you have an app that works well in Salesforce Classic? Should you switch to Lightning? The answer will depend on whether or not the app is built on custom Visualforce pages. If so, you have already invested time and effort to customize what you need, and may not wish to go down that path again.

Another issue relates to your use of standard pages, e.g., contacts, accounts, etc.  If your team uses them, you can easily switch to Lightning without much effort.

Either way, end-users will need to spend some time becoming accustomed to the new interface, and that can cause a temporary lag behind in productivity.  To see how the new UI might look and feel before enabling Lightning Experience, try a preview through the Lightning Experience Migration Assistant.

On the other hand, if you need to build a new mobile app from scratch in a matter of minutes, Lightning Experience is for you.  Salesforce1 Lightning allows you to build and customize employee and customer-facing applications for a variety of devices — even wearables — swiftly and easily via a “drag and drop” interface.

Switch to Salesforce Lightning. Success story 1

How we transferred the multi-package management system from VisualForce to Lightning in 3 weeks.

Tools and Technologies: Lightning, Apex, Triggers, Lightning Components, VisualForce, CSS, Javascript

Our Client, a leading Pharma and Clinical research company, approached us with a pressing need to transfer the existing CRM systems from Salesforce Classic UI to Lightning UI. And they needed it fast.

The Client’s Salesforce CRM solution consisted of various packages from different vendors and thus could not provide a desired operational level for corporate and international business processes. The Client intended to introduce more visibility to both internal process, e.g., workforce, finance, clinical trials management, etc., and external processes, e.g., sales, marketing, etc.  Salesforce Lightning was needed to manage all these functions within their CRM.

THE CHALLENGE

Within an extremely compact timeframe, the Client expected our team of Salesforce specialists to transfer all custom VisualForce pages to Lightning, as well as implement some new features on Lightning. Since their Salesforce system consisted of numerous additional customized packages by various vendors, we needed to integrate all Salesforce data from financial, tracking, sales, communication and management systems, and then adapt and transfer them to Lightning afterwards. After the transition was completed, we were also required to perform thorough testing of every component by automated and manual QA, using more than 50 test cases.

THE SOLUTION

Here is how we met the challenge.

We replaced a part of VisualForce functionality with standard Lightning functionality.  This provided for better usability by both developers and end-users.  When analyzing VisualForce pages for transfer to Lightning, we applied the Salesforce Lightning Design System to VisualForce pages carrying heavyweight functionality in order to adapt them to the look and feel of system demands. The Salesforce Lightning Design System provides the ability to design and build device-agnostic apps for customer applications that look and feel like other Salesforce core features. It eliminates the need to reverse engineer applications just to reflect the Salesforce style.

Afterwards, to give greater visibility and speed up operations, we transitioned the client away from Salesforce Customer Classic VisualForce to Salesforce Lightning so that they could better manage their customers, events, registrations, clinical trials, etc.

Using the Lightning framework, our team enabled reusability of each existing component with custom Lighting applications, Community, Salesforce1 (in case a component had an appropriate design) or VisualForce pages. In this application, some VisualForce pages were also reused and wrapped in the Lightning component.  This maximized time efficiency for implementation, and helped to provide insights for clinical trial management, updates to complex reporting systems, and automated/regression testing, etc.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

Our development team successfully converted the system to a consistent developer and end-user Salesforce Lightning solution. Utilizing key features like enhanced dashboards, customized path, performance charts, and task prioritization, we built an actionable Salesforce Lightning solution that can speed up internal and external interoperability, as well as decision making within sales, clinical trials, operations, and general management.

Connectivity with Salesforce Lightning. Success Story 2

How we provided smooth integration between Lightning and mobile native features.

Our client needed connectivity between Salesforce Lightning responsive pages and mobile native features, including contact lists and sales workflows to allow globally positioned sales representatives to manage their customers more efficiently.

Tools and Technologies: Lightning, Apex, HTML5, AJAX , Lightning Components.

THE SOLUTION

By using Salesforce Lightning, CoreValue’s Salesforce team provided a responsive application that leverages the HTML5/AJAX user experience provided by the Lightning Component framework. This was wrapped with a Native App and the native features connector to provide access to a phone/tablets contact list.  The solution dramatically increased the effectiveness of sales representatives and Salesforce adoption by removing the necessity to manage contact lists directly in Salesforce.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

Reusable Lightning Components provide the ability to replicate key experiences from page to page without additional duplication overhead.  Lightning Components also provide a responsive user experience off the shelf, as well as adding the ability to leverage connectivity to native features.  This connectivity allows tight integration of apps with operating systems and hardware, e.g., access to contacts, mail, maps, and hardware features including camera, microphone, etc.

SUMMARY

For businesses intending to reset their Salesforce implementation and introduce new functionalities with a modern look and feel, Salesforce Lightning can speed the process of adoption and customization so that your workforce can be as effective as possible. Salesforce Lightning can significantly enhance internal interoperability and accelerate decision making within sales, finance, operations, etc.
