Search File in Recycle Bin:

Sometimes, accidentally or without knowing you pressed the delete button. Hence, whenever you’ve lost your file from the system then first open the “Recycle bin” and search the file there.

Search File by Typing the File Name:

Are you remember your file name? If yes, then you can use the “Search” feature. Before searching the file, make sure that you have marked the “Hidden Files and Folders” option.

Search for AutoRecover Files:

It is an advanced feature in Word Doc. In MS Word, go to “Tools” -> “Options” and then double click on AutoRecover files under “File Location”. Click “Cancel” and “Close” then open the folder in “My Computer” or “Windows Explorer”. Now, search for any .asd file.

Search Temp Files: 

Temp is a temporary file which stored data temporally. Try to find your doc file using .temp files.

Search for .wbk File:

This method only helps you, if you have Word set to “Automatically backup your document”.  In Word, click on “File” -> “Open” and then navigate where you think the file is located.  Don’t forget to select the “All file*.*” option. Check the .wbk file and search the file, which you are looking for.

Search for *.wbk File:

This method is same as above one, but here you have to search a *.wbk file.

Search File in a Hidden Folder:

Open a hidden folder that is C:\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*\Local Settings\Temp. Click “Start” -> “All Programs” -> “Accessories” -> “Windows Explorer” and navigate to the folder.

Search AppData/Roaming:

If you are using Windows 7 or 8, then search %appdata%. Here, find “Roaming” folder -> “Microsoft” folder -> “Word” folder and check the file.
