The ocean is calling you! Salty waves, sand between your toes, and relaxing while getting a sweet bronze! But, let’s be real. You don’t have to go all the way to the ocean to get all of that. You can easily take a cruise to your nearest lakefront.

There are beaches galore! However, the worst thing you can do when taking any trip is being under packed. Make sure that tote bag is packed with everything you’ll need to wear while relaxing on those sandy shores. Whether it’s a bright sunny ninety-degree day or an overcast humid good time, you’ll want to have the perfect outfit to make the absolute most out of your vacation.

So, check out this handy guide we have created to help you figure out what to pack to wear on your next beach vacay, featuring one of our favorite vacation brands Pretty Little Thing!

Swimsuit

Of course you need a swimsuit to wear if you’re going to the beach! What’s in style this year? One piece swimsuits are sweeping Instagram and Pinterest this year. From deep V, to high-leg, all the way to vintage stripes are popping up all over. Personally, we love this style and how classically timeless it looks on the beach, especially paired with an oversized floppy hat. But, we are still a fan of two piece swimsuits as well. Light floral prints and neutral colors are in style this season and we love how these patterns look on two piece swimsuits.

Jumper

A sweater at the beach, say what? Say: yes! You might be thinking that it’s a little crazy to bring along your trusty jumper, but it’s an essential to pack in your bag. You never know when mother nature is going to unleash her wrath. Also, when you’re there (fingers crossed though) it might not be the best temperature to swim. The jumper is perfect for those windier days. But, it is also fun to pack in your actual beach tote. Sweaters look really cute, especially oversized ones, thrown over your swimsuit as a coverup or if you get a little chilly.

Jumpsuit

Jumpsuits are a must-have this summer and are absolutely versatile. You can find ones with long sleeves, short sleeves, and spaghetti straps. Striped jumpsuits can give the illusion of longer legs and even look vintage. Vintage looking jumpsuits (ones that are muted colors or striped) look very classy at the beach. Most jumpsuits are made of a light fabric and are flowy around the legs, meaning they are perfect for the beach! Pair your favorite jumpsuit with some oversized sunnies and a cute striped beach bag.

Two-Piece Outfit Set

Two is always better than one! This is a fairly new trend, but is catching like wildfire and for good reason! The two-piece outfit set is taking Instagram by storm. To be on top of this trend and look incredibly classy, check out some fun two-piece outfits. Flowy ones or ones that feature shorts are perfect for beach time wear, making sure you won’t get too hot as sometimes the materials are thicker. Most often, they feature a crop top and a pair of cute matching high waisted shorts. The absolute perfect combo! There are some that feature pants and a matching crop top as well. The best part is you don’t have to worry about matching your clothes.

Wrap Dress

If you don’t have one already, now is your chance! Imagine sipping a cocktail on the beach dressed in something elegant, yet very comfortable. Wrap dresses are perfect for accentuating curves and hugging the body. A wrap dress provides you with all the flattering benefits that come with ruching, making this a must have dress for any body type. Wrap dresses provide you with the perfect mix of of beachlike and elegant, which would be great for a date night out on the beach or enjoying some drinks lakeside.

Crop Top

Crop tops are essential must have tops, so why wouldn’t we include them in your packing list for the beach? Crop tops are extremely versatile and can be worn with jeans, shorts, or even your swim bottoms while you are relaxing on the beach. Crop tops can be skin tight or flowy. You can even purchase your crop top in a few sizes up to give it a more relaxed feel. If paired with high waisted shorts or jeans, crop tops can really accentuate your waistline.

Shorts

Linen shorts are in style! These shorts are incredibly stylish and have probably been blowing up on your instagram with pictures of them at the beach, but you might not be a fan of this type of material for those hot summer days. Rest assured, there are plenty of shorts to choose from. Our favorite beach short? High-waisted and fabric shorts. High-waisted does not mean booty bearing, but it can! High-waisted shorts come in many different varieties, including longer versions and some that are cuffed. But, some cheeky shorts are always a cute alternative. Fabric shorts are light and breathable, making them perfect for a hot beach day.

Kimono Cover Up

If you like the bohemian beach bum look, then pack a kimono cover up. Kimono cover ups are light and flowy. This is essential for the beach because you do not want anything that is going to stick to your skin and make you uncomfortable. Kimono cover ups are breathable and versatile, so they’ll go with virtually any swimsuit or outfit you decide to bring with you. Kimono cover ups are great to pack, especially if you tend to get chilly after you get out of the water, but want something that’s easy to remove if you get too hot.

Floppy Hat

Nothing says relaxed more than a floppy beach hat. You should pack this essential item not only because it is very stylish, but it will also protect your scalp from sunburn. If you burn easily, you should definitely consider a hat to wear on your trip. Floppy hats are the perfect accessory and will shield your eyes, face, and head from those UV rays. They also look great in beach photoshoots! Floppy hats come in all colors and sizes. We love the look of a straw floppy sun hat.

Sandals

Walking the beach barefoot can be dangerous, not only could there potentially be garbage or sharp rocks, but you could step on a jellyfish! Ouch! That would be one way to ruin your fun vacation. Shoes are essential, even if you slip them off when you get to the sand. Having a cute sandal, even if it’s just in case, will make you feel better if you happen to notice that the terrain is no longer ideal. Sandals can also be a statement piece and completely bring an outfit together. If your outfit or swimsuit is plain or muted, you might choose to amp it up with a pop of color from your sandals.

Beach Bag

What’s a beach trip if you don’t have somewhere to toss all your seashells into! A beach bag or a beach tote is absolutely needed if you’re going down to the beach, especially if you plan on staying for more than a few hours. What kind of things can you put in your bag? You may want a book to read while you’re getting some sun. A camera for taking all those pictures. That kimono cover up! An extra pair of clothes could do you good. Snacks are needed, of course! Sunscreen and maybe some lotion can fit easily into your bag. Stick those sunglasses in there! Last, but not least, roll up a nice beach towel into your bag.

Sunglasses

What’s my most forgotten item? My sunglasses. Make sure you have some sunnies packed away with you and even bring an extra pair to throw in your beach tote bag! Sunglasses will help protect your eyes from those nasty UV rays and can also bring together your look head to toe. When you are swimming or near a body of water, UV rays tend to be even more amplified. You wouldn’t want to cause damage to your eyes, so make sure you have some sunglasses close.

Do not get in a rush to hear those ocean waves that you forget to pack all your essential clothing items and then remember at the airport that you forgot your cover up hanging in your closet. Although I am a procrastinator, especially when it comes to packing, I advise you to try to pack at least a few days in advance. That gives you time to think of something you may have forgotten to include in your bag.

Packing outfits for your trip is sure to be a breeze thanks to this ultimate packing list. Whether you’re renting a vacation home for the weekend, staying for the whole week, or making a day trip out of it you won’t be caught without the perfect outfit to wear. These items are the most in style and trending items to pack with you to wear on the beach, making your beach vacation a complete success!
