Why the Universe Made Car Sales People

Tags: car sales

Car Sales People are their own special breed, one that only other car sales people can ever truly understand.

Not to be mistaken with retail sales people who deserve their own credit, car sales people lurk in consumers’  minds as lions on the hunt, determined to convince their prey to surrender.

Metaphors like this create a negative perception of car sales people, but if anyone actually took a moment to review their tactics, one would be astonished. It takes skill, great skill.

Which explains why it is so hard to actually find astounding car sales people that aren’t “green peas,” otherwise known as new or inexperienced car sales people.

Not only do car sales people need to be more versatile than a retail-robot, they need to have natural charisma and retain unbelievable amounts of knowledge to charm the “up” (potential customer) and prevent “strokes” (non-buyers, just browsers).

Oh, and the mere fact that car sales people have their own language puts them up there with the likes of Hobbits and Wookies.

Car sales people possess skills beyond internal because they need to effectively communicate with every type of person that walks through their dealership.

It is crucial for a car sales person to know when to use wordplay, persuasion, and pricing tactics. They, too, need to easily segue questions to befriend the potential customer, all the while mentally determining which car would best suit their often exhaustive list of needs.

Car sales people deal with families, singles, married, and the “one-legged shopper” (car shopper without spouse).

Not to mention the additional sets ranging from the “Professor,” a customer lugging paperwork or car research under his or her arms, to the person sitting on the fence about the vehicle.

If all else fails, the car sales person uses the “puppy-dogging” tactic that offers the potential customer to take the vehicle home for a few days, much like taking a puppy home, counting on the resulting attention and bonding to turn into a sale.

Just in case this wasn’t enough, car sales people also require the ability to empathize while quickly calculating for the “ghost” customer, you know, the one with no credit history. Sigh.

Phew! Each of these customers require different personality traits that the car sales person needs to access quickly and stealthily.

The various type of customers car sales people encounter daily surely goes on, and this is just the surface of all things a car sales person handles, most within an hour or less.

So let’s be sure to take a few minutes to watch this video by Chris Adams to celebrate car sales people. After all, there is a reason why the universe made car sales people… simply put, they need to be universal.
