Imaginative Writing GCSE English Language - In Europe

GCSE English Language - Imaginative Writing

A free writing resource that can be used alongside a study of the 'travelling' theme in the 9-1 Edexcel GCSE English Language Anthology. The activity encourages learners to write descriptively though the medium of an online blog post.

The lesson delivered includes a famous landmark starter, where learners have to guess the cities and the names of various landmarks in PowerPoint images. Learners can then get in teams and think of as many European Countries as they can in a competition. Here learners can then discuss where they have been in Europe, what they enjoyed, what they know etc. The students then studied 'Neither here nor there' by Bill Bryson and began to study the language and structure used in the extract.

Following this, learners can then start to write creatively about somewhere in Europe, either imagined or through real experiences. You could encourage learners to research first or they can get straight into it.
